Salman Khan's Education Predictions for 2060

Resumen en español al final del artículo

Over the weekend I had a brief, but very interesting discussion about the use of Khan Academy content in OLPC projects around the world. This is a topic which we briefly covered in two guest articles last year but admittedly I hadn't thought much about it since then. While reading up on what's been going on with Khan Academy I stumbled across this video by its founder, Salman Khan, presenting his education predictions for the year 2060.

I found most of his comments to be quite interesting, though in a sense also - for the lack of a better word - predictable. The one major exception is his comment about him seeing society's recognition and financial rewards of teachers being significantly higher in 2060.

What did you think of Salman Khan's predictions?

Thanks for this.

I think World University & School, like Wikipedia with MIT Open Course Ware, - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University - will offer a completely different, complementary approach by 2060, at the University level, where people can learn from home, and where some educational collaboration will take place in the virtual classroom, like a G+ group video chat.

WUaS plans to offer free, online, interactive Bachelor, Ph.D., Law and M.D. degrees, accrediting on MIT OCW.

Nice post
I agree with you, with the current (and future) technologies, we can learn by ourselves from many resources. Internet, web, search engine, social media and community. It make us less dependent on the teacher.

I agree with the preditcions, however it is worth noting the idea of fixed high achievement and variable time with portfolio based transcripts has been in place with remarkable success sine the mid 50's (yes, more than 50 years ago) in Colombia. It is called the Fontan relational method and it is named after its creator, educator Julio Fontan.
What is also worth noting is that at the same time quality of teachers will improve, the number of teachers needed will decrease and its role be completely different. This will be a major challenge in developing countries.
