Back in May of 2009 OLPC France organized the biggest gathering of OLPC and Sugar community members Europe had ever seen: Sugar Camp #1. For many of us this was the first time that we were able to put faces to names, IRC nicknames, and e-mail addresses we had worked with for many months or even years. It was a truly great event!
So I was very happy when I heard that OLPC France was organizing Sugar Camp #2:
Two years after the successful first SugarCamp (see video), OLPC France is glad to announce another SugarCamp! This event gather teachers and developers interested in discovering and hacking Sugar, the free learning platform developed by Sugar Labs. Being the default environment of the OLPC XO, Sugar is already in the hands of about 2 millions children all over the world. Join us in discovering and improving it!
Dates: September 2011, Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th (over the weekend) (9am-6pm)
Location: Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie in Paris
Saturday morning (9am-12am): "Fix Sugar Docs" camp (Docs sprint, Ideas, etc.)
Saturday afternoon (2pm-4pm): Plenary session - OLPC Activities, OLPC deployment feedback
Sunday morning (9am-12am): "Fix Sugar Docs" camp (Docs sprint, Ideas, etc.)
Sunday afternoon (2pm-4pm): CodeCamp (bug hunting, code reviews, learning Sugar, ideas, etc.)
I'm excited to see the program's strong emphasis on documentation within the Sugar context as this is a topic I'm very passionate about. During May's eduJAM! summit in Uruguay I already spent quite a bit of time talking about it. So I'm very much looking forward to having more time to focus on documentation work during that weekend.
Thanks to sponsorship by OLPC Foundation some support is also available to help people cover their travel expenses in order to be able to attend the event:
If you need help for funding your travel, please send an email to bzg AT laptop.org before August 20th.
We won't be able to refund more than 150 USD per trip, and we will fund regional (European) travels in priority.
At this point it shouldn't too hard to tell that I'm very excited and I can't wait to be back in Paris for Sugar Camp #2!
