I'm having problems, too. I started at the terminal $ prompt and used these directions found on OLPC News:
1. Open terminal
2. Type su
3. Type yum install prboom
4. Accept all file downloads
5. Type Exit
6. Type prboom -geom 1200x900
7. Play DOOM!!!
After step 3, the 2.4 kb koji-ship2 package downloaded, followed by a 2.5 mb primary.xml.gz package. After all the packages downloaded (step 4), I saw these lines:
Excluding Packages from OLPC development (koji sources)
Finished
Setting up Install Process
Parsing package install arguments
No package prdoom available.
Nothing to do
bash-3.2# exit
exit
Something went wrong -- it won't launch and says "command not found."
By this time, you've probably figured out that I know nothing about programming. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

I went through the steps correctly, andeverything went fine as far as I can tell, but when I ran "rpm -ivh AlephOne*.rpm" I ran into an error.
It prepared to 100%, then AlephOne-M1A1 got to 50% though the progress bar appears to have gone to 100%, then AlephOne went through 100% like it should. Then it displayed "error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/bin/alephone;4775eea7: cpio: read"
Then I tried to finish up the steps I found on that blog, but running alephone-m1a1 results in "/usr/bin/alephone-m1a1: line 3: /usr/bin/alephone: No such file or directory"
So I tried to start over from step 1, but if i repeat the commands it basically says 'no, you did that already, you don't need to do it again' and I have no idea how I could try to re-download or re-install the missing file or directory. I'm kinda assuming there was a hiccup in the download, but I honestly have noo idea what I'm doing.
Right, I am having a similar problem... except my unpacking failed at //alephone;47790784: cpio: read
What can be done?
Wow, those errors aren't good. They indicate that the RPM files are corrupted. I've noticed in the posts on this forum that there seems to be a problem with downloading files via the Browser, but people seem to have better luck using 'wget'. That is definitely worth a try in this case.
I've updated the instructions on my blog to include using 'wget' and 'cksum' to give you a better shot at getting those RPM files downloaded without problems.
I've also added a couple of blur-o-vision pictures of Aleph One running on my XO.

Right... I downloaded the files with the wget command... perhaps the check sum will help.
I'll keep you posted.

Does that mean that you've got Aleph One running? Cheers if so. If possible, could you post a picture? It can't be any worse than the ones I took...
I've been asked about Durandal and Infinity; I'll update the blog to reflect them once I've tested them.

OK, all three of the Marathon games work fine on my XO. I've updated the blog to reflect installing everything. That's 100 MB of stuff, or 1/10 of the total XO drive space!

I had forgotten how cool Durandal / Marathon 2 and Infinity are.

Unfortunately, I still don't have a digital camera.I'll see if I can stir one up though...
In the meantime does anyone know if its possible / how to do a screen-grab on the XO?

So, I have Doom running now. However, I've never played the game and I'm a bit stuck. The graphics are very low-res -- am I missing visual clues to secret doorways, etc., due to the low-res nature of the rendering or am I just going through a typical Doom learning curve?
If anyone can recommend a good Doom introductory Web site, I'd appreciate it.

That's hard to tell, from the information, that you gave. Doom is quite a demanding game for a beginner. And you are probably playing the free replacement data "Freedoom", right? Then it's probably even a bit harder.
Wikipedia has a page on Doom:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doom_%28video_game%29
At the end, there are several links to Doom-sites. Remember that you probably can only use general tips, because walk-throughs etc. are for the original, non-free game-content.
