Thanks for doing that! I've been in touch with Jason Shim about the Waterloo group... I'm hoping we can flush out some others in Waterloo.

Count me in. So far, it seems I am the only Londoner waiting for an XO. I'm in Toronto now and then, though.

By the sounds of the shipping forum, it sounds like we might see them in the next few weeks...

I'm also an XO user/enthusiast in the Ottawa area, and am looking forward to a satellite group being formed here.

Hi Jasonji!  Kiss

Whenever I'm in TO, I'll be there.  Or if there are others in Ottawa, I'm willing to host an Ottawa satellite  group.  Mostly I just know people here who are waiting to see mine, rather than other people who've ordered it!   Roll Eyes

Hi Everyone,

My name is steve -- I am the program director of New Media at Ryerson University (and a colleague of Jason's).  It's great to see such interest!

Our school has purchased several machines and I have 2 for research.  I am interested in public, networked art events on non-proprietary systems.  These have been physically in TO and Buffalo.  The meshing capabilities of these machines are of great personal interest.

Thanks to Jason for kicking this off.

I just recieved the two that I ordered (Day one order).  I almost missed the FedEX guy and he was leaving them in my door.  He did not need a signature and did not mention anything about extra charges.  I have plugged them in to charge and will be indulging my extreme itch to crack them open a bit later.

As a BONUS, I got two different colours of "XO"; one is orange/blue and the other blue/red!
What colours has eveyone else been getting?

Mine's on the truck!

[I put down the wrong postal code, and when I realized it they called it back to the depot, to get it on the right truck. Hopefully it will get sent out tomorrow.]

Hi folks, my XO arrived today. I am interested in being connected to the group. I am not terribly tech savvy.

We'll have to work out a meet-up this month for everyone to gawk and talk... and see how the things work together!

Ours came today also. (No one was home so FedEX left it at the front door. It sat out in the cold, in plain view all day   Roll Eyes )

I'd be interested in the Toronto user group

Hi fellow OLPC owners.
I finally received my laptop today and have started playing with it.
I'd be interested in participating in any group OLPC activities. I'm a software developer and very familiar with Linux so I'm in a good position to help anyone with technical issues.

So far I've:
1. connected to a wireless network
2. upgraded the OS to version 653.
3. Installed the Opera web browser (much nicer than the one installed).
4. Installed the Read activity and moved some PDFs onto the laptop.
5. Begun reading how to write and install custom activities.
6. and generally played around with all the built-in goodies.

I live in downtown Toronto and will try to make it to any events in the area.
Ryerson is convenient. Or just a coffee shop would be cool too.

Email me at z5h at microsoft's free email.

Cheers.

Hi All -
Mine came this morning, so now I'm ready to sign up for a meeting. I'm looking forward to meshing in a busy neighourhood...  The FedEx guy said the depot was flooded with "these things - what are they, anyway?" so I would hope for a good turnout.

My preference is for one Thursday or Friday a month, at Ryerson, as JasonNolan has suggested (offered?). If that doesn't work out, I might be able to get a room for free at my church hall. It's also downtown, but farther from any subway stop.

Of course in spring or summer I would suggest Bickford Park, across from the Linuxcaffe at Harbord & Grace. The food and coffee are great, and the wireless is free and open. (And it's just a short walk for me  Wink  )
