Not so fast!

My computer arrived with a "Failure to Boot" message.  It is clear from my attempts to contact the company that they are trying very hard to address problems but that they are overwhelmed and they don't realize that the general community doesn't have their computer skills.  They suggested, for example, that I might use a flash drive to download an operating system to completely reformat the new computer.  Although I get the concept, I am not in a position to follow the instructions they gave.

Let's get this first wave of computers out in the field to see how it all works and to give them time to set up a Help infrastructure that is large enough to handle the large volume...then we can talk about School to School...

Computers have problems, OLPC is no exception. If this were a good reason for not putting computers in the hands of schools, then no school today would have computers. Schools have IT departments, staffed with computer professionals who can resolve most problems.

While I agree that support and total cost of ownership are very important, it is no reason to deny children technology.
