Selling T-Mobile Access

Has anyone been able to sell their T-Mobile Hotspot access?  I have no use for it, and buying the XO was really a stretch of my budget (I'm still not sure how I justified it, temporary insanity?)  So, I'd like to recoup some of the cost by reselling the Hotspot access.

If it turns out I can't sell it/it's too difficult to sell, I'd be willing to donate it to a charity, although I'm not sure what a charity would need Hotspot access for.  So ideas for places to donate would be appreciated as well.

I'm not sure you can sell it. All you have is an access code, and I'm not sure how you could securely transfer that on the open market -- a high degree of trust would be required. There is nothing stopping you from selling it to a close friend or family member, though.

You must open the T-mobile account and use it for the first time within 6 months of receiving your XO, according to the T-mobile agreement I got. Access only includes real T-mobile hotspots (like in Starbucks and Borders Books) but does not include roaming.

For more information I suggest taking a look at the T-mobile site. It has offer details you should look atr before you try to sell your subscription.

I signed up for the T-Mobile Access before I got my computer up-and-running.  If, as you say, I must use it within 6 months, this is unfortunate for me because my computer will not boot and I may need to send for a replacement.

I did read in the Agreement that the access is non-transferable, so I suggest you give up the idea and just move on...

The T-Mobile Terms and Conditions are very clear (emphasis added):

Quote
5. Use of Service. Unless otherwise set forth by us in writing, you are receiving a single user account solely for your use of the Service through one Device per login session. You agree not to resell or attempt to resell any aspect of the Service, whether for profit or otherwise, share your IP address or ISP Internet connection with anyone, access the Service simultaneously through multiple units or to authorize any other individual or entity to use the Service. You agree that sharing the Service with another party breaches the Agreement and may constitute fraud or theft, for which we reserve all rights and remedies.

Less clear would be the way they could enforce their ban on resell or sharing.

If you have not activated the pin then you should be free to try and sell it, donate it, give it to a friend who has no life but likes to sit in Starbucks.  Even though they say you can not resell it, I think that they mean once activated by using the pin.

I was going to sell mine on e-bay as I don't use hot spots because I have Sprint PCMCIA card service.  After 5 days the price was $1.99 so I decided that it was not worth it cancelled the listing and I will most likely give it to my brother who is on the road alot.  I guess people are a bit nervous buying a item like that on e-bay.

You may consider giving it to a charity that can use it as an auction item to raise money for their cause.  Maybe even give it back to OLPC for some of their traveling staffers to use.

I also have no use for the T-Mobile access and have been wondering if I could give it to someone or sell it.

The Terms and Conditions are something that you agree to when you sign up for the service, no?  Since I haven't signed up for the service yet, I haven't agreed to their Terms and Conditions.  If I gave/sold the access to someone else, they would need to agree to the Terms and Conditions when they activated the service.  I believe the intent of the Ts&Cs is to keep people from connecting to a Hotspot then sharing or even reselling the connection.

I'd hate to see the subscription go to waste simply because I have no use for it.

I've seen a few T-mobile subscriptions on E-bay. Follow this link for an example:

The ones I have seen have looked at providing PIN codes to the winning bidder.

Do you know if it is sold if someone else can add on time using the payment type used in the g1g1 program?  I doubt they would even be connected in any way but who knows?  possibly someone who has already activated theres could tell us?  also can you use your pin on there regular site to sign up or do you have to use http://hotspot.t-mobile.com/give1get1? or can you put it in the promotional code area here https://selfcare.hotspot.t-mobile.com/accountcreate/BeginSignup.do or the prepaid card area?

I assume from looking quickly at the Terms & Conditions that the "Device" need not be an XO, and in fact could be an XO for one login session and an IPhone or computer for another login session. Does anyone think otherwise?

From the T-Mobile G1G1 page:

https://selfcare.hotspot.t-mobile.com/accountcreate/ExternalSetPromotionCode.do?promo=TM365SC117

"Just use any Wi-Fi-enabled device, such as your laptop computer or a Wi-Fi-enabled mobile phone, and you can connect and communicate your way."

So my guess would be any wireless device is free to use it. I think that there was something similar on the original G1G1 webpage as well.

We have two XOs, therefore two t-mobile accounts. I set one up with my email/info and one for my husband with his email/info - he travels a lot. However, he's not always travelling, so there are times when I have sat in Starbucks with my iphone logged in on his account and one of the XOs logged in on my account. They don't care/notice what device is accessing it. Once you create the UID/pwd, you can use it from any wireless-enabled device (and if you have two accounts you can use them both at once!)

Hope this helps.
