yum install synergy

Now I can put the olpc next to my PC and use my PC's keyboard and mouse for both of them.

WOW!! THAT is truly amazing.  Here are some useful links I found while trying to make it work for me:

http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Coding_on_the_xo
http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Talk:Coding_on_the_xo

The directions are well done.  The only problem I had was while doing setup on my windows machine (as the server) it took me a while (a minute or two) to realize the "+" button wasn't grayed out like the rest of the buttons.

This is WAY better than a USB keyboard and mouse.

Being able to copy and paste between machines is awesome!

This is the best install outside of Opera IMO.

install yum gvim

also worked for me giving me a gui version.

With gvim on my windows machine and linux now plus synergy it is much easier to move files around.  For text files I just load up the file I want to move and copy/paste it to an empty gvim on the other machine.

For one binary file it isn't bad either.  Just load it up in gvim, then Tools:Convert to hex, Edit:Select All, Edit:Copy, go to other machine, paste, convert back, save.

Much nicer than messing around with a memory stick for one file imo.

I had great success with PRBOOM and VLC (which works quite amazingly... I didn't know how great those speakers were!!!) based on this thread.

For fun, I tried Gimp, an open source Photoshop-esque proggie...

Code:
su
yum install gimp

Everything seems to work fine, although the tools and etc go to separate windows - which means that you need to cycle through the windows in order to access them (using ALT+TAB).

Now onto Amarok!

Just for reference - for those of you with large bulky fingers like myself, just hook your normal USB keyboard into the side. I have the Mac keyboard with a mouse attached to the USB on the back and they work instantly... In fact, the scroll wheel and back "thumb button" on the mouse operate perfectly within Browse.

How did you install VLC...I got an error...

Error: Missing Dependancy: libdvdnav.so.4 is needed by package vlc

Any help appreciated.
