I sent Nicholas Negroponte an email thanking him for his amazing dedication to this revolutionary project. He responded very kindly.
So send him your appreciation of the OLPC here

in this thread.  I will email him link to this thread once the list is full of thanks. (torokun)

Surely this man is paying a high personal price to see this thing through so the least we can do is thank him!

I'll just thank him here, so I don't flood his inbox:

Thanks Nick!!

Yes, I was just thinking the same thing - you might even want to remove his email address from this thread. Not just to avoid a flood of thank you notes, but also to avoid abuse by the small minority of people who seem to be trolling these fora simply to foment trouble.

But I echo the sentiment: A big thank you from me also!

Thank you Dr. Negroponte.  We received our XO the day before Christmas and my 10 year old daughter and 18 year old son were fascinated with this powerful little computer.  I was so impressed that three days later I donated again.  I am behiind you 100% and wish OLPC the best in 2008!

Grin  Dr. Negroponte, I am really glad you have been so dedicated.  I hope you always keep your enthusiasm!  I love the little XO laptop, I love what it stands for and the potential it has.  I'll keep doing what I can to help OLPC.

Here's a little piece I did last month about Nicholas' 64th birthday:

In spite of seemingly constant envious criticism from very powerful commercial interests, and an equally naive bashing by the sheep that follow them, you and your group have persisted and delivered.

Your product is outstanding.  Not only does it satisfy the requirements of your project, but it goes far beyond, introducing new technology to the world of computing, and validating the open source evolution.

You have great vision and  patience.

We all thank you for your effort.

I've had an XO for a few days now -- Wayan Vota loaned me his -- and it's truly been an amazing tool.  I work with kids with developmental disabilities and am very interested in using the xo as assistive tech.  What I've witnessed with the kids I work with and their interactions with Wayan's XO have been amazing.  (Okay, the screen got licked once, but that was someone trying to kiss her image in "record."  A big reason I'm drawn to the XO is the fact that it's much more durable than a typical laptop -- and more waterproof!)

The whole project is inspiring.  I love the fact that I have a really cool machine and that I'm part of something bigger than myself.

Thank you Nicholas.

The OLPC idea alone has changed the world.  And with each XO that reaches someone's hands that change becomes more evident.  I'm sure a few large corporations would love to see this idea become a distance memory but that is not going to happen.  The idea is just too powerful.  It is simply amazing.
