I can browse any website.  But when attempting to download RPMs from terminal, I get (every time) failed-Connection Timed Out.

This has happened with 2 different versions of flash, and with the OLPC opera RPM's.  Also using wget commends.  Where do I start to troubleshoot?

Hi gefitz.  If this were me, I would probably double-check the strength of my Internet connection by looking at the bubble I am connected to in My Neighborhood.  Then I would browse to the repositories/sites where I would find the files to see if they are having problems or are down for maintenance.

Thanks, eden for your quickness.  I've got no trouble doing anything with the Browser application (except for the odd application that doesn't load everything..I need Adobe Flash for that!).  Only thing that I have trouble with is grabbing things using terminal.  And browsing to all the locations where the RPM's live works fabulously...just connections over terminal seem to timeout.

Hmm.  I've disabled my firewall to see if that is the issue (the hardware one), but no change.  I did disable IPv6 on the laptop, but Don't think that's any difference...

OK, I am hosting opera-9.12-20070122.10-static-qt.i386-en.rpm at my site so all anyone has to do is type:

su

rpm -vi http://thepete.com/opera.rpm

I tested this on my machine after I believe an install of the 653 build of SugarOS erased my previous install of Opera and it seems to have worked fine.  HOWEVER, since Opera remembered my settings I suspect all the 653 install did was erase the opera icon in the activities frame.  It's very possible that I didn't install anything new, so give it a whirl and please post your results.

I'm also hosting http://thepete.com/opera-activity.tar.gz so you can snag that, too, if you like but I think I unpacked it incorrectly since it didn't show up in the frame. :\

Pete,

Any hopes of getting a few more things listed at your site?

I think Flash would be a nice addition.

Maybe we better start a new topic, since this is off topic?

Yeah, I don't have a problem with that at all so long as folks stop by my main site and click on a google ad or two  Cool

I'll try to get to it later today and put up a thread for it.  I'll post here again, as well.  I've got a few errands to run this afternoon and then I need to upgrade my WordPress (cringe), so expect it not until tonight.  But I don't know why I didn't think of doing this sooner.

I have also uploaded Opera 9.12 to my webhost in case the other places are offline for some reason.

To install, open up Terminal

[TYPE:] su

[ENTER]

[TYPE:] rpm -vi http://www.sciencesquare.com/opera9.12en.rpm

[ENTER]

[Once the process is complete, it will put you back at command prompt. TYPE:] opera [to start using the program.]

If anyone knows of newer versions or other languages of Opera available for please send me a message and I will update as necessary.

Hope this is helpful.
