Image Quiz looks fun (although I sense its a memory hog).  It would be really useful to me if I had any idea how to make my own quizzes.  Any ideas?

if so I can tell you how to create questions. I submitted about 160 of the 191 questions that exist currently...

You'll need 3 things to submit a question:

1. a Creative Commons (i.e. public domain) image
2. the question & answer
3. a link or some basic factoid relating to your question.

Here's how you do it:

1. http://www.linuxuser.at/xoquiz/
2. click on "Submit a Question" to start the3 step submission process.
3. In step 1 of the process you can upload a new image or browse the collection of images that have already been uploaded. Once you upload/select the image you will automatically be taken to step 2 in the process.
4. In the Step 2 section you Type the question into the "Question" box and select a category from the existing categories (or use the "new" box to create a category). You can also create or use subcategories.
5. click on the "OK" button to select the category.
6. Then use your mouse to create an orange line/circle/bubble/square/whatever to identify the correct answer.
7. Click on "Save" to be taken to step 3.
9. In step 3 you are creating a link or short paragraph describing/explaining the question.  As you type, it will appear in the green "speech bubble". The link will use the Title text as the link. The text paragraph can be about anything.
10. Click on Save to complete the process.

Whew, that sounds like a lot, but its really very simple.

To better understand you can use the http://www.linuxuser.at/xoquiz/ link to play the game. Select Geography, then United States, then click on Play. A quiz about the 50 states will appear. When you click on the map (step 1 of the creation process) to answer the question, you will see the orange frame/edge/square/circle that identifies the correct answer (step 2 in the creation process) and a speech bubble will appear that has a link to the Wikipedia entry about that state and a fun factoid about the state.

Awesome!

I would like to make private quizzes, like quizzes over content my kids are learning. If I make a quiz, will everyone have access to it?  (I ask because some kids are learning the names of people in the building, etc, so those pictures can't be shared.)

I don't think its possible right now. But if you email chris (at) olpcaustria (dot) com -- or perhaps (dot) org -- he should be able to help you with that.

OLPC Austria is the organization that is making the quiz. I know that there is some kind of "offline" version that can be downloaded into an XO, so you could make private quizzes that way.... but I dont know the full details.
