I've been following this page's instruction...

But keep getting "Can't open NAND image file error...

*I updated the firmware to q2e46
*I reformatted my SD card (regular 1GB SD card) to FAT16 and installed the img and zip file

From what I can tell, I did everything I was supposed to.  But it's not working...

I did at some point (with other builds) and I just had to change the USB stick.

But could be other reasons  too.
I assumed that you checked the os874.img md5sum (should be e629c1bf071c873e00248663cf70fd25) and renamed the  os874.img.fs.zip to fs.zip.

You may also want to run a hardware check if your XO was unused for some time. Just press the rocker key left during startup (pause between individual tests if you want by holding down the rotate button)

What exactly is the fail message?

I've seen the same issue and it turned out that the download was indeed corrupted. So I'd suggest to follow mavrothal's suggestion, check the md5sum and else re-download if the checksum is different than it says in his post.
