Got my XO the 24th. I've been exploring it and learning how to use it. I have no knowledge of programming but I managed to install the Opera browser. I see that figuring out how to do some things is going to require some further leearning, so I'm very interested in being part of a Los Angeles XO community for this reason. I live close to LACMA (L.A. County Museum of Art) and I'd be interested in meeting monthly depending on the location chosen. At home I'm using an ethernet/usb adapter, and I ent to my local Starbucks to try out the T-Mobile. both work fine.

I like the enthusiasm this XO, and the cause behind it, has generated, and I'm grateful for the people that are sharing their expertise so generously.

I got mine and I'm leaving for Vietnam on Thur, 1/10, where I want to donate it to an orphanage. It's already bad enough that it's in English, but I have no time to get familiar with it to show the youngsters how to use it.

If anyone has already mastered the basic features, esp. fun features that will appeal to children, I would be willing to pay for your time to quickly get me acquainted. I'm a sw developer so I can learn fast if you mentor me!  Please help!!! I am in Irvine but willing to travel to LA, SD or the IE.  Email me at [email protected].

Wow, Guymenton, that's pretty exciting! As for someone to train you, that's a tough one.  Perhaps you can point an adult at the orphanage to these forums or even to me and we/I can try to help them, well, assuming they know English, of course. :\  I'm almost thinking that you might want to hold onto your XO until someone does a Vietnamese localization for it.  Sorry, I wish I could help you more. Hey, all -- I just made some arrangements to accompany a deaf-blind friend to this convention in March:

If anyone here is going to either be there, or might have some free time to say hi from Wednesday 3/12 through Friday 3/15, let me know. My XO and I will be on hand. Smiley

It would be really nice to have an SCXOUG here in So Cal.  Monthly meetings in a fairly central location (maybe SF Valley) could work for folks from Ventura Co through LA county.

Maybe a weekend afternoon so it wouldn't interfere with folks work schedules.  Maybe we could do it at a Borders so we could use the internet.  I think they do host special affairs, we would need to choose a store and set it up ahead of time.

Why don't we shoot for early April if there is enough interest.

Well, we did have one meetup in Van Nuys back in January, but Feb flew by with no meetups.  So I'm up for it.  However, Starbucks makes the most sense since we all have T-Mo service.  Wait--does Borders have T-Mo, as well?

Every Saturday afternoon I'm at a place in Hollywood called Groundwork on the corner of Sunset and Cahuenga.  They've got free Wifi and I bring my XO to work on a novel.  I'd be happy to see anyone after about 5pm or so if anyone wants to join me.  Or if we wanted to pick a bigger place to meet than the tiny Starbucks we met at in January, I'd be up for a late afternoon Saturday meetup or an any time Sunday afternoon meetup in the Valley.

Anybody out there in the S. Gabriel Valley?

According to this list of XoCal (Southern California) XO enthusiasts, there is one person in Sierra Madre.

Yeesh, 6 months with no chatter. Not a great sign. But hey, it's been about a year and I'm wondering how people are using their XOs these days. Are people still using their Xos these days? Personally I'm using mine for the exact same things I I used it for on the first day (comic book/ e-book reader and extra portable web browser).

If anybody is down for a meet-up (thepete, I'm looking at you), post yer availability and maybe we can make sumthin happen. I'm comin out of Pomona, and for a while at least, my schedule's wide open.

Sometimes, Jabbering with your city at the end of your XO name can jump start things:
