Do not know about 'impossible' Smiley.
all I can say is the I have booted a fresh XOpup > 100 times in 4 XOs. Never auto connected.

Quote
Am really out of ideas. Maybe order "the zowii" and forget about wireless for now.
or maybe put a shorter password in your router.

Had no end of trouble getting XOPup-2.1 installed and working from sd card. Bought a 16gb sd card - nothing I did enabled booting- reformat, vfat, ext3, nothing. Bought another one, worked first time. Removed XOPup-2.1 and put XOPup-2.2 on, same problem, had to go buy a new one, work first time. A bug or a sd card problem Tongue?
After burning some money on SDcards I can say the 4GB class 6 or below, is the safest bet. Though you never know really...

I now have a fully automated build process that can build any recent Puppylinux, for the XO-1 and XO-1.5, using any Linux version!
In a 2 year old Dual-core machine with a fast DSL connection, takes about 70-80 minutes for the entire process.
~30minutes to download the kernel sources, ~40 minutes to build the kernels and ~5 minutes for the rest.
You can build the kernels once and keep them and then it only takes 5 minutes!

What you need is to download the files from https://github.com/mavrothal/Pox_git/, expand the tarball and run the make_build script.
After an hour or so you can have the latest puppylinux development build, slacko beta 2 (96 MB with the full seamonkey 2.2 browser/mail/composer!)

or the latest stable Puppylinux5.28 build (102 MB)

running on your XO!
Network, power management, sound etc, are  all  working properly.

(though I still prefer XOpup-2.2 over those guys  Grin )

Try it for yourself and if you make any changes in the build process, we welcome patches Wink

I downloaded 2.2 and expanded it right on top of my 2.1 install and everything seems to be working!

On boot up it said something about updating to new version and it would take awhile with a slow cpu but it completed and continued to boot into 2.2.

I love Frisbee!  It asked for my network password and connected!  no other steps needed and it worked! I was never able to get 2.1 to use the wireless.

Closing the lid and going to standby did kill my connection though when I restored.

Thanks for the new version Mavrothal!

If you are using the Google-chrome browser in XOpup, installed form the google deb package and with the custom desktop entry, and try to update to the latest google-chrome 13, you'll find out that it does not want to run as root Angry

Fortunately there are specific puppy pets that work fine and are described HERE.
Make sure you install the libgconf2-4_3.1.6.pet first.

One small issue is that the puppy version of chrome keeps the user files in /root/.config/chrome while the google version in /root/.config/google-chrome so you may want to copy over some needed files from the Default folder (Bookmarks, Preferences, databases, Extensions etc).
A second little issue is that the desktop file in /usr/share/applications is Google_Chrome.desktop instead of Google-Chrome.desktop of the original.You may want to delete the old one and run "fixmenus" in terminal, so you do not have two entries in your Manu->Internet submenu.

Of course if you did not use Google-chrome before, just download the 2 pets from the link above and you are set. (be advised that Iron and Chromium are ok on XO-1.5 but do not run on the XO-1. Only google-chrome does)

BTW I like to run chrome in incognito mode so does not keep a tone of data in the save file. To do that just open /usr/local/bin/defaultbrowser and add " --incognito" after google-chrome.

It was fun and educating for me and hopefully useful for those of you still holding on your XOs.
Way more than useful to me.  The XO has been filling a need that I can't meet until the country I live in gets 3G.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Just a heads up.
Youtube provides the option to opt-in for html5 viewing of its videos without any registration or anything else. Just a single click.
Tried it on the XO-1/XOpup-2.2/Google-chrome-13 and is quite viewable!
I suspect should work well also with other compatible browsers and OSs, though I did not tried it yet.

Midori is  one of my favorite browsers on the XO-1 and XOpup has a truncated version of it as a default html viewer and rudimentary browser.
The available full midori pet versions did not work well in XOpup, till now Grin

I have uploaded a full version of midori-0.2.9 in Datafilehost.
At 5.5MB is both full-featured and as fast as the XO allows...

Be advised that will replace the truncated version of XOpup, as the default html viewer.

Some times I wonder how the thread-views are counted and what do they really mean Huh
This thread has presumably 100.000 reads!
But judging form activity, file download etc, I doubt that more than 1000 individuals ever looked at it at any point.
So how on earth these numbers are generated? Just page requests from bots and crawlers? Adding counts every time the same person opens the page ? (I would count for at least 1000 Grin). Adding counts every time someone opens a page with a link to the thread? Other Huh

[I'm moving this post to this thread.  I think I accidentally put it in the wrong spot to begin with]

I am using Puppy 2.2 on my XO-1.  I like it, and I mostly use it for reading news stories on the internet through Google Chrome.

Lately, I got to thinking that it would be easier on the eyes if I could invert the screen colors, so I'd be reading white text on a black background, instead of the other way around.  A little hunting on the internet led me to a small program called xcalib found here:
http://xcalib.sourceforge.net/

I saved the file in /root, so I can now invert the screen colors with this command:
# ./xcalib -i -a

It works great!  But, now I would really like to assign one of the unused keys on the XO keyboard to invoke that command.  That way, I'll just toggle between inverted and regular screen colors with one key press.  Again, searching the internet, I found this:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=19860

I've been trying to follow it, but I'm not having any real success.  I'd like to assign the screen invert command to the key with the two dark rectangles in the upper corner of the keyboard.  I've discovered that it is "121 NoSymbol", but I can't seem to figure out what I need to do to assign it the invert command.

Any ideas to point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance...

Do the following
Place xcalib in /usr/bin and make sure is executable.
The add these 2 lines at the end of /root/.Xmodmap
Code:
keycode 121 = F13
keycode 158 = F14
Add these 2 lines in /root/.jwmrc around line 360  and in /etc/xdg/templates/_root_.jwmrc around line 160 (under the "<!-- Key bindings -->" header)
Code:
<Key key="F13">exec:xcalib -i -a</Key>
<Key key="F14">exec:toggle_color.sh</Key>
Add these lines in /root/.config/openbox/rc.xml around line 260 (under the "<!-- Keybindings for running applications -->" header)
Code:
   <keybind key="F13">
      <action name="Execute">
        <command>xcalib -i -a</command>
      </action>
    </keybind>
    <keybind key="F14">
      <action name="Execute">
        <command>toggle_color.sh</command>
      </action>
    </keybind>
Make sure that you do not put this within another command. eg between <some_command> and </some-command> because will mess up things. Right under the header would be a good place.

Then if you also want to use the upper-right key (with the black rectangular) to toggle color and B&W put the old "toggle_color.sh" teapot's script (below) in /usr/bin and make ti executable
Code:
#!/bin/sh
j=0
read i < /sys/devices/platform/dcon/output
if [ "$i" == "0" ] ; then
j=1
fi
echo "$j" > /sys/devices/platform/dcon/output
Restart the X server and you are good to go.

PS: Sorry is not in a "pet" form but it would overwrite your menus and mess them up (though I might have a solution for that too Wink )

WOW!  THANKS!

I will try this out later tonight... I am going to study the "manual" method first, so I can understand it, but the pet is really cool.

I'll comment again once I've got it going.
