Under Sugar it does not rotate Sad
This is one of the later Sugar releases but I did not write down the version #.
Under the original Puppy Linux, the screen rotation button brings up a menu for switching between workspaces so the physical button is still functioning.

Surprised that you said it was supposed to function but perhaps not worth spending a lot of time troubleshooting.

Thanks again.

The Fedora 10/11 build has working rotation button so I know it is not the physical key Smiley

That is good! But strange. So with os883 rotation does not work?
If true this is a bug that should be reported.

What is your firmware version? Should be at least q2e45. Better q2e48 or newer.

Also, is this happening with a fresh install (w/o a save file) of XOpup-2.2? e.g. is the rotation button dead using the default OpenboxWM or only after you install the JWM pet?

Unfortunately, I think my cat may have borrowed the SD card with Puppy installed.  He clams not but it is not on the desk either Sad

The rotation key never worked for me under Puppy so I just assumed it was not implemented.
I think I have q2e45 but would not swear to it.  I will try updating and maybe the SD card will reappear.

Thanks

I fondly remember teapot's ubuntu with its auto-hidden applications panel at the top of the screen, that allowed maximum use of the XO's little screen.
So I made a pet that will add an auto-hidden applications panel on your XO-pup's desktop when running JWM window manager. So your Desktop can look something like this

Of course you can change it as needed by editing the /root/.jwmrc-tray2 configuration file.
More info and pet here or if you want to be adventurous Tongue just grab the jwm_apps_panel-1.pet

If you have an XO-1.5 and you wonder how hot the CPU gets (not very), take a look HERE Wink

This puppy is a water-dog!

Mavrothal and Eden: almost a year ago the two of you shared some advice on how to get my XOs running reliably as a marine chart plotter.  I waited til now to try xo-pup to give it a chance to mature. I have just loaded xo-pup and it works great.  I have loaded open-cpn and all appears to be working. I need to spend a little more time learning to use the os and the app, but wanted to thank you for all the time you have invested in making puppy work on the xo.  For me it is a real water-dog.

All right mavrothal, I've got your Puppy Linux installed.  It's quite quick with the JWM and default browser, faster than Teapot's Ubuntu!

Getting Puppy set up was a bit unclear, I didn't figure out that I had to shut down to create a save file until after I had lost a lot of settings changes through X restarts etc.

Anyhow, now I'm trying to get the sisusb VGA dongle to work - I see you have added a configuration file for it, and built the kernel module.  Thanks!  Now I guess I have to find an xorg server driver, and hack on the xorg.conf?

Any thoughts on trying to use Xinerama instead of XRandR?  There's still no multi-GPU support on RandR, even in the 1.4 development queue...

Sorry about that, but I think is written somewhere in the instructions Roll Eyes
Though it should be able to save your settings even after several X restarts, unless you run our of memory.

Unfortunately I do not have a dongle to test, but theoretically everything is there. The xorg.conf the kernel module and the xorg driver.
Did you try to just connect the dongle and boot?
If you did and failed, please drop to console and save the /var/log/Xorg.0.log to another place so we could see what may be the problem. Also run an "lsmod" to check that the kernel module is loaded OK and "dmesg > /path/kernel.log" save it and see if there are any other related kernel messages.

Ah, so I'm the only one who's actually trying to use the USB dongle?  Thank you for getting everything compiled and set up just for me!

The kernel module is definitely getting loaded.  I've given the SiSUSB driver the 3rd console (since the 4th is used by X windows)
Code:
echo "options sisusbvga first=3 last=3" > /etc/modprobe.d/sisusbvga.conf
... so when the kernel driver loads, the SiSUSB VGA console message appears on the external monitor.  So far so good.

If I boot with the dongle plugged in, I assume there's some kind of script automatically changing xorg.conf files in the background? That's a little confusing, especially since the SiSUSB xorg.conf file sticks around even after I reboot without the dongle.

If you look at /etc/rc.d/rc.local lines 7-25 you'll see how the xorg.conf is set depending on the dongle being present or not.
As, I said theoritically it should just work. You are to tell us if it does Wink

Here's the kernel log - nothing too scary?

My hope was that there'd be a way to use Xinerama to run both internal and USB displays simultaneously.  At least it would be good to have a clean way to switch between them.  Right now, having to reboot the machine to have the xorg.conf files switched is a bit clumsy (and not going to cut it for live presentations!)

Do you have a sense of the options? I know that RandR doesn't support multiple GPUs.   What a shame.

I think that the geode driver does not support this.
Remember seeing somewhere in olpc devel list someone trying it without much success. Have you seen anything relevant?

Kernel log looks OK. So is it working OK with the external monitor?
