Hi,

I am recently working on a project about the olpc. Through this project, I can also promote the core ideas of olpc and get more people involved. Questionnaire and analysis has to be included. But the problem is that we have to related our topic question to the any three modules we have learnt :

-globalisation,
-public health,
-personal development and interpersonal relationship,
- modern china,
-energy technology and the environment
-hong kong today

But the problem is that I can't really think of ways to link up any of the three modules. Can any of you kindly give me some advice so that I can carry on with the project?

Thanks a lot

thanks for your suggestions GregYohn.
However, it would be really time consuming and difficult to compare Hong Kong and China's education system in such a short period of time. and the other problem is that i am the only one doing the whole project. I am thinking of somehow relating the OLPC to globalisation...

We are working on a way to use the XO laptops in a rural Lesotho Africa community that ties into public health, personal development and interpersonal relationships, and globalization.  I don't know if our ideas could help your project or not.

Lesotho has a 30% HIV/AIDS infections rate with 90% of those infected individuals also infected with drug-resistant TB.  Doctors without Borders has called Lesotho the forefront of a possible worldwide pandemic. We are working on a multi-pronged approach to deal with this public health issue by teaching children how to deal with interpersonal relationships among other things, and we are developing our program and providing information through  the internet, the ultimate globalization tool.

We are currently collecting HIV/AIDS and drug-resistant TB prevention information, developed specifically for younger children, to distribute to 6th & 7th grade students via the XO laptops.  We plan to have the students develop Scratch stories, journals, and other materials to show how HIV/AIDS affects their lives, and how to deal with peer pressure to engage in unsafe behaviors like alcohol comsumption (which often leads to unsafe sex).

We will use these forums and online chats to encourage them to talk about ways their culture, community, family, and friends all influence their behavior and how they can respond to those influences.  At the same time, we want to set up both adult advisors and peer counselors in the local community, and possibly in the U.S., who will be available for online chats with any of the Lesotho children with an XO who have questions or need support dealing with HIV/AIDS-related issues.

We will teach the students where to go online for reliable health information. And, lastly, we will be working with the local clinic to develop a community outreach health program and possibly remote video health consultations using the XO laptop network.

All these things are possible because of the XO interconnectivity and wonderful capacity for collaboration.

the only way it's related to globalization is our complete and utter reliance on use of the internet and the globalization of communications and information.  i couldn't have done this project withouth the internet.

i've done 99% of the organizational work with information and resources found on the internet, i've done almost all the grant research and fundraising through the internet and social networks.  I've found all the resources and technical information through the internet.  i located a number of the volunteers on our team via the internet, especially social networking and list serves.  that includes people on two continents, in three countries, and 8 time zones apart.  i've found all the educational and health materials via the internet.  i bought all the laptops we use via the internet. and i do almost all communications with our team and people helping us via the internet.  people visiting our website come from 5 continents and about a dozen countries.

hope this helps!
