Hello, my name is Franco, first I want to explain that I speak Spanish and my english is not very good, really its bad.
I have read the forum with my little english and not found a guide who can help me.
Forgive me if there is a guide and I have not found.
I'm a PC technician in a small town in Argentina, an institution in my area has been used OLPC.
They do not have computers and want to use these laptops to teach students to do office work, etc.
I got all the laptop to install Windows, this would be the first choice of them, Windows XP Lite or Windows 98, and I proposed if they could not, install a lightweight Linux "x win" (I have very basic knowledge Linux) with a system so I can install the printer, the Oppen Office, etc.
My problem starts when I want to boot the laptop via USB or SanDisk and can not do it ... someone can give me a guide as to boot?
I own: Room CD USB - Pendrive - SD - WinXP Lite, 98, Win PE Live USB, several Linux Live CD in USB or
I can also download the OS that I recommend.
Please, If you need more information, just tell me how I get it, and I give you.
Thank you very much for your time, I again forgive me for my english and if the post already exists.

Hola!

Are you looking to use an OLPC XO laptop or use its SUGAR OS that the children use? I am using an OLPC XO now, but I would advise that you could use Linux based SD/USB memory stick on a Windows computer. My desktop boots into it now. I know that OpenOffice is very similar to Microsoft Office, but needs a large memory card to perform well.

I was able to boot into Linux by downloading Sugar. Here are the instructions in English. http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/pub/mirrors/sugar/soas/docs/creation-kit/index.html

You can use a 1 G SD/USB item, but that is not large enough for most people!

Adios!

stcruzalta,
If I understand correctly you want to install windows on the XO. For that you have to contact Microsoft or their local representative. My understanding is that there is a special XP build for the XO.

In Argentina as far as I know there is the first XO-1.5 deployment which is coming with dual boot, Sugar and GNOME desktop.
In GNOME users can install all kind of productivity applications without any problem through yum/yumex. Is like Windows, only better and free Wink

Or visit your neighbors in Paraguay. They lead this effort

XO-1: Is never going to run Flash, but is certainly flashy!
(If you want Flash, get an XO-1.5 running OLPC 11.2.0 or XOpup Grin )

GregYohn:
Thanks, A OLPC was used in the office and others will be for training of students go through PowerPoint presentations, PDF, DOC.
They do not know how to use another operating system other than MS Win.
I would donate a SD memory for the institution.
I try to install that system, I just need to learn how to boot.

goney3:
Thank you for your information, try to do a good translation to understand it, maybe tell me how to boot from an SD or USB.

mavrothal:
I live in a small town, the Microsoft representative that lies 600 km away.
I will try to communicate with them online to see if I get any solution, it would be great if I got the Windows XO, I would buy it for all OLPC without hesitation.

Thank you very much to all of you for answering my question
I'll try everything I say and again I give my results.
