First, you can operate the XO without the battery, using just the power module / charger.

If your XO is from the original G1G1 and has not been upgraded, you probably have the Real Time Clock (RTC) battery problem.

http://www.olpcnews.com/sales_talk/g1g1/how_to_fix_bricked_g1g1_xo_lap.html

This can be repaired with minor disassembly (video by Anna) and the use of a USB to
serial adapter:

http://en.forum.laptop.org/viewtopic.php?f=1324&t=180103#p615973

There are some simple tests to diagnose this.

1.  Remove battery
2.  Plug in power module to AC power.  If the embedded controller (EC) is working, then the battery LED will flash amber briefly.
3.  Power on and watch the microphone LED (above left speaker). If the firmware is running, the LED will very briefly flash green.
4.  If the XO does not boot, the most likely cause is the RTC clock problem  --  the clock battery could have been jarred loose during shipping.

Leave me a personal message if you want to try to repair yourself.  I have the USB to serial adapter for loan, or have a few connector / cables if you have an adapter.  This requires a PC or second XO to correct the firmware problem associated with the RTC clock problem.

hellO:

thanks your help.but I have to read several time more to get what it means.

"Note that the LED lights can help identify this problem. If the amber battery light flashes when the power module is plugged in ( battery removed) and the green power LED does not light when the power button is pressed, then suspect this problem. If the green power LED does light, suspect the software."

that is the paragraph I read from the url,
I have plugged in the power module and left battery removed, but the green power LED light ,screen still blank, does it have to suspect the software?

"green power on LED and no display" is my situation

the machine is from manufactuing date is 2007 ,I do not know where is come from,
possibly from Buy one give one.

Your XO is probably original and the user never updated software.  So many were just placed on a shelf and never used.

Again, the sequence is:  remove battery; watch for quick amber flash of battery LED as power module is plugged into AC; press power on while watching for mic LED to briefly flash green.  The power LED is now green and the screen is dark.   If this is the sequence that you see, the most frequent cause is RTC problem.  On rare occasions, it is software that can be corrected with update on a USB drive, but the firmware has to operate correctly (which is not the case with the RTC problem):         mic flash is very quick and short

http://wiki.laptop.org/go/No-fail_update

If beyond your experience, send to repair facility mentioned in first post.

If you could follow steps on youtube video (stop before removing display), then the rest is easy -  plug in cable / adapter to XO and second XO and run a command in Terminal Activity.

no mic flashing ,only the green power light on and no display,'
if the problem is with the firmware I think it impossbile to update it in a non-bootable machine, but I will try it later

Really thanks to your reply Kiss

Of course this might not get your problem solved, but do you have a recharger for a NiMh battery charger? Try using it, instead of the green plug you now use. I have heard of green plug chargers sometimes breaking. They both would be sending 12 volt power to your XO. HKG uses 220 V, 50 Hz electricity and the green plug does switch between 110-240V AC, but might be malfunctioning.  My suggestion beats paying for a new plug.

If you like Pizza in HKG, try going to Pepperoni's Pizza. I visited the one in Stanley and they BEAT Pizza Hut there in Hong Kong.

This USB to serial adapter (board) is shipped from Hong Kong:

http://en.forum.laptop.org/viewtopic.php?f=1324&t=180103#p619333

This adapter allows connection to the internal serial port on XO.  The firmware can be run directly from there and the date / time can be set on the RTC.  The USB part of the adapter can be connected to another XO or a PC, which acts as a "dumb terminal" to communicate with the XO through the internal serial port.  This does require a special cable connector to match the connector on the XO (and a standard USB / micro USB cable to connect to "dumb terminal"). The special serial connector / 3 wire ribbon cable can be sent by mail in an ordinary mail envelope and then soldered to the serial outputs on the adapter board.

The problem is that the RTC clock with a loose clock battery loses stored time and all is set to zero.  RTC does not recognize a month value of 0 and does not start and firmware does not handle this state (bug). Setting RTC month value to valid value (1 to 12) starts the clock and the XO will boot normally. A software update then removes the bug and a loss of time never prevents booting.

Carefully check the mic LED  (maybe in the dark) --- it flashes only once and very briefly and immediately after the power button is pressed.

Thanks to GregYohn, Dinky

Do not have NiMh battery charger to try!

yes,I can confirmed it has mic flash that is very quick flashing.

I have found this product ,does it fit in?

If I bought it ,do you mean I need a special cable to connect it to the XO:

something like it?Do you know what is the name of it,I can search ebay and taobao to buy it?
