gcompris with decent speed on xo-1?

Is there any way to run gcompris at decent speed? I've tried many old and new os versions but gcompris was always too slow to be usable.

I would prefer to run it from gnome on latest F11 for xo-1 builds like os300py.img,os16.img etc. I have installed it via yum in os16.img, tried to lower resolution to 640x480 (by adding modes via xrandr as per teapot's ubuntu solutions), disabled effects and zoom in gcompris settings but it is still slow (laptop is overclocked to 530MHz). Any tips?

You may want to try the SugarLabs collection instead of yum install.
There is some XO-1 optimization but do not expect miracles...

XO-1: Is never going to run Flash, but is certainly flashy!
(If you want Flash, get an XO-1.5 running OLPC 11.2.0 or XOpup Grin )

Thanks. Will try. I wonder how Sugar scales with so many activities. There are 107 gcompris activities.  Are they grouped in the user interface somehow? or can I install them all at once perhaps as one activity?
