Presenting Fedora 11 for XO-1 build 140py.
Built by some OLPCers in Paraguay, this build includes:
Working suspend/resume, all devices resume flawlessly
No regressions *relative to build 802!*
Camera works in Sugar, Record, etc.
GNOME desktop included, easy to switch to and from. Suspend/resume in Gnome works, NetworkManager, etc.
Sugar 0.84, see the Sugarlabs wiki for more info
Wifi networks autoconnect almost instantly (including WPA networks!)
Boots faster!
Comes with some new firmware, though I see no differences.
Auto-suspend and resume is much faster, happening about every 20 seconds from what I see.
Supports GSM modems, allowing cellular internet connections. (Thanks, mavrothal, for the tipoff!)
All in all, this is truly awesome.
Issues:
Mouse seems to be jumpier. Is it not auto-calibrating?
Automatic suspend/resume dims the backlight ABSOLUTELY. That is, it changes it to 80 percent of FULL before suspend, and full afterwards.
Tips and Warnings:
Security must be disabled! (Type "disable-security" in OpenFirmware).
Failure to boot the first time has been reported, though I did not experience it. Your mileage may vary.
Like all OS upgrades that use the "copy-nand" command, this will
OVERWRITE YOUR EXISTING NAND CONTENTS WITH NO WARNING.
This will only happen when you install the image.
The "fs.zip" is a deployment signature and will only work for official Paraguayan laptops. Use the os140py.crc file instead.
For download link, see
olpc-devel mailing list. (For some reason, I'm having issues with links in this forum)
Links still hate me, see Mavrothal's first post on this topic.
Still can't print, though...

Indeed
There are some little issues. Most inportant you MUST have security disabled. Not just a developers key. This is a signed version and uses different keys. See
http://lists.laptop.org/pipermail/devel/2010-April/028206.html
Even then you may have
some issues
in the first boot but there is
a solution
An additional new feature with these builds is that it
supports GSM modems
so you can have Internet-on-the-go just like the other guys...
Currently supports only English and Spanish.
Oh...
to download

Thank you, Mavrothal. I'll edit the original post to include that.

HOWTO: Install
To install this awesome OS image, you will need to do several things.
Step One.
Get a developer key.
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Activation_and_developer_keys#Getting_a_developer_key_for_your_running_XO_laptop
Step Two.
Copy all important files to a USB stick or SD card.
Step Three.
On another computer, download two files onto a USB stick or SD card.
Place these files in the root directory of the card.
http://people.sugarlabs.org/bernie/olpc/f11-xo1-py/os140py.img
http://people.sugarlabs.org/bernie/olpc/f11-xo1-py/os140py.crc
Step Four.
Boot your XO. Hold down Escape while booting. This is the key on the upper left of the keyboard.
Step 5.
You are now hopefully at an "OpenFirmware" prompt.
Type in "disable-security" and press Enter.
Let it do what it wants to do.
Step 6.
Move the SD card or USB stick with the files you downloaded into the XO. Reboot while holding down Escape, to get to another OpenFirmware prompt.
Step 7.
If the files were downloaded onto a USB stick:
type "probe-usb", press Enter, then type "copy-nand usb:\os140py.img" and press Enter.
Step 8.
If the files were downloaded onto a SD card:
Type "copy-nand sd:\os140py.img" and press Enter.
Step 9.
Reboot.
Step 10.
Step 11.
Profit!
Whoops, OLPC won't let us profit. Oh well...
Step 12. Enjoy the new OS image!

Giving this a try...
When I got to the open firmware prompt ("ok") and entered "disable-security", the xo responded immediately with a not-encouraging "No wp tag"
Have I done something wrong?

"No wp tag" means security is already disabled on your XO.

Wow...so far I am impressed. The only glitch I've experienced is the trackpad, which does seem to be much worse than before. Otherwise, someone's done a really fine job of expanding the utility of my xo...
Who do we thank for this?

As usually it takes a village...
But the way I understand it, the F11-XO1 project started by OLPC's Daniel S. Drake (for the first 2 builds) that actually generated the build system to follow XO-1.5 software development.
Then DSD moved to more pressing needs and the project was taken over by OLPC's Steven M. Parrish for the next 11 builds.
Then SugarLabs' Bernie Inoccenti with the Paraguay Educa, brought it to deployment status (thus the py in these builds) for the Paraguay deployment.
It should soon be out an OLPC build for the rest of the world too.

This isn't working for me. After typing "copy-nand sd:\os140py.img" it goes through the erasing thing, and I get
CRC miscompare - expected cd743e61 got f2130a51
Stopping
After rebooting, the OLPC logo "clock" thing stops at about 2 o'clock and then goes to a black screen. What am I doing wrong?

This means the image file is corrupted. Try re-downloading.
If it still fails, try a different USB stick.

Is there a way to prepare this as an external 'boot from' image, rather than installing on the machine?
Thanks.

I'm not sure. Perhaps dd would be up to the task.
May or may not fry your USB drive, though, so be careful.

Works! But where is the synaptic package manager / add-remove applications? Do I just use the terminal to apt-get things? Thank you for making this available!

Debian/Ubuntu is aptitude/apt-get. Fedora uses yum. Debian/Ubuntu packages are .deb. Fedora packages are .rpm.
To install something in Fedora:
Code:
yum install <package name>
