1) Having and installing a developers key is not sufficient. You must permanently disable security from a running os (the sugar os802 I guess that runs ok in your machines) before you install any unsigned build or a build signed with a different key, like the os###py builds.

Mav,
Thanks - it was 'disable security'.  I thought I had done that, but apparantly had not.  Not sure if you need to do it every time you rebuid the system or not.  Anyway, I have the process working on both machines now (one with 100 and the other with 16) .  FWIW took both machines up from 802.  Here is the summary
1) Developers Key - Copy into memory
2) Terminal to SU.  Then paste dev key and hit enter
3) restart
4) Terminal to disable-security
5) Machine restarts
6) Terminal to confirm security disabled
7) Copy Nand (see other instructions)
Cool Installed Image 100 on "Green" and 16 on "Orange"
9) Removed USB
10) At OK prompt - typed reboot.
11) Machines rebooted
12) Both systems did some magic and rebooted themselves again
13) WOW - In Business

These builds look AWESOME.  Quickly figured out the switching between the desktops.  Wireless hooked right in with both.  Now time to start playing with them.

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR PATIENCE.

I just tried os373pyg, this is a release candidate for the "inconspicuous" Dextrose, eg the SugarLabs release for the OLPC XO1 and XO-1.5 (still they can not mention the name OLPC or XO in a major product...).

It is good!
It is still Fedora 11, but Sugar 0.88 with some additional goodies lime backing up and reinstalling your journal, rebuilding it in case of corruption, changing from finger touchpad to stylus, wide area, drawing, showing machine cpu and memory in frame, etc.
Also the Gnome desktop is back and with an increase in temps, yum can do much better.
All and all a very good build!
The only "drawback" comparing to the new "official" builds is that it still needs a developer key. But I guess everyone around here should have or can get one Wink

Yeah, I also installed os373pyg on my XO-1 yesterday after running 353py for the past 3 weeks and I'm really happy with it Smiley

I've finally gotten around to installing this--got 373 running and seems fine so far--it's only been a few minutes, though Smiley I'm trying to install Comix.  Seems to be hanging on "Setting up Install Process". Sad  But the OS itself looks great--switched into Gnome pretty smoothly and runs really well.  I look forward to trying out my iPhone-ready videos on Movie Player.  Thanks for this thread, everyone!

Well, 373 seems less than perfect just a couple hours later.  There are lots of random RAM jams that act like complete lock-ups, but eventually go away.  Also, screen rotation doesn't work--portrait mode (either one) is borked beyond usability, which is kind of frustrating since the only reason I dusted off my XO was to use it as an e-reader.  Still, we'll see how it goes.

Try the official os852 build.
It also has Gnome, (almost) the same F11 core and screen rotation is fine.
If you do not care much about Sugar 0.84 vs Sugar 0.88, just change /etc/fstab to match os373pyg, so yum will work better.

Ah, OK--what about sleep mode?

Hm, I kind of feel like I'm tempting the Jinx Gods in taking a chance on installing another OS over this one. O_O

Ah, OK--what about sleep mode?
Power management is problematic for the current XO-1 builds. On os852 it works and you could set it up for minimal problems (and minimal energy savings in "normal" use)

OK--I've also noticed that the XO-1 just shuts off after a while.  In sleep mode or if it's just sitting there doing nothing.

So, in the end, 852 does have sleep mode, but it's buggie?

Just in case you missed it, OLPC has a new official release (10.1.3-os860) for the XO-1 and XO-1.5.
It is really nice and stable and has a number of bug fixes and improvements.

It still running Fedora-11/Sugar-0.84 (I "hear" that Fedora-14/Sugar-90 is schedule for May) but is a very mature and stable system though some issues remain.
And of course if you want to install new rpms with yum, you need to apply some of the hackery described above in this thread.

Mav,
Just installed it on one of my machines.  However, I am not seeing my available wireless networks.  Funny thing, both Gnome desktops are v2.26.3.  Therefore, I SHOULD be able to find the right interface.  Ugh, I have the feeling I missing the obvious :-(.  Need to put the machine owners to bed, then will try and work on it again...
Thanks

Aha.  What I did (right or not right.  Easy or not easy...).  Enabled Networking.  Rebooted.  Enabled Wireless.  Rebooted.  Back in business.
