After all of my grumbling, and people telling me my griping is bringing them down, I watched with joy and glee as I watched my XO winging it's way to my home.  After ~45 minutes with OLPC on Monday, I got my Ref#, and on Tuesday, I saw it moving!  Original delivery date was the 21st, but it got here on the 20th.  So while at work, I am refreshing my tracking info, when I see this:

2:46 PM     Delivery exception      LAKEWOOD, NJ     Customer not available or business closed - Signature required

WHAT?  After the few Give One, Got None stories, and people saying no signature required, mine did(seemingly the only one in the USA)!!  Well, my Father was supposed to be waiting for it, but he left, and that's when the evil(or quite possibly angelic) FedEx guy snuck up and door tagged me.  It IS better than having it taken, and my heart does go out to the G1G0 people.  Since I had already gone down to FedEx the night before to pick up an envelope, he volunteered to go there and pick it up.  I called FedEx and they said after 6, and before 7:30pm, and the door tag also said pick up after 6pm.  Well, at 7pm, the driver STILL wasn't back at the depot.  When the driver did show up, and my Dad snagged it, I still had to wait an hour and a half because we were going to dinner.  When I got home, I snagged the shots in the link below (including some ruler + dollar bill shots for reference).  It's sitting next to the laptop I'm typing this on right now, plugged in to shake the winter chill so it doesn't catch a cold.  I should be able to use it tonight, and hopefully be able to sleep.  There's shots of the box, the XO, the fabled signature required door tag(might put it on eBay) for you all to enjoy.  If you still haven't gotten yours(Canada, G1G1D1ers, G1G0, etc...) I do feel your pain.  OK, you all have a great night.

Well, after posting last night, I went to spend "just 15 minutes" on my XO.  Partly due to fascination, and partly due to frustration, I was on it for about two hours.  The frustration was mostly because I didn't have the time to find out the answers to most of the questions I had and also that I somehow made the address bar disappear from Browse, and could only navigate via links and searches.  Also, while the manual tells you how to power on, it doesn't say how to power down, or how/if it can go into sleep mode.  Of course, I was fighting my own sleep mode, so there might have been, and I'll find out when I get called out on it today.

Now as for fascination:  WOW.  I couldn't believe the paradoxical nature of the XO.  The OS seems so simple, yet some parts just scream POWER.  It was so cool being able to check out my Flickr page of the XO being un-boxed on my XO.  I would have been online with the XO sooner, but while I was uploading my pictures, I couldn't modify my router because it would have to reboot.  Once I finished uploading, turned on the wireless part of my router, the XO found the connection, and allowed me to connect.  I was confused because the connection was a red circle, which made me think it was a bad connection.  As for the display, WOW, again.  The XO gives you the impression it's like a leapfrog or a fischer-price toy, but the screen was just clear as the CPU I'm on now.  The non-back light mode was just amazing, and I would turn it off while reading pages just for the shear joy.  Today I will put a e-book or two on my SD card and see how that works.  OK, that's all I can think of right now.  I'm dragging my XO to work with me, and hope I can deny it's siren song to stop and use it.  I can't wait to bring it with me in the outside world, and hope I can learn it better so as too not look like a fool.

I've been spreading that picture around the office. It really puts it into perspective. Thanks!

Yeah, I was taking the shot, and I saw my wallet sitting on my cabinet and said , "That's even better than the ruler, because everyone has a bill, unlike a metal yardstick."  Thank you for the compliments.  I already drained last night's charge trying to get it to connect at my job.  It was having problems because I don't use a standard IP for our router, and I have all the IP's locked down to prevent conflicts.  Once I turned on DHCP, it connected just fine.  Will wait for the fix for that.

I kind of wish I had the yo-yo charger, because I could have burned off the holiday treats I've been munching on, instead of plugging it in.
