I tried it and looks pretty good!
The wicd bug remains (have to set the interface to eth1 in order to work) and administrative apps fail to launch from the menu (the included Openbox Session and Synaptic that I installed). Also Synaptic after installation also showed under menu>preferences as a double instance(?!)
My camera is broken so I can not tell how it works with Deborah.
The only thing is, that I have the feeling is a bit slower than Deborah 0.1. Of course I have no objective measure and I'm probably in a hurry...

Edit
Ooops... the gamekeys gamepad does not appear to work (tried with Opera)

I expect there are going to be some annoying bug that are just as confusing as the wireless bug. I didn't expect that to go away since I did nothing to fix it. I tested the gamepad and direction keys but it appears that they sometimes don't work. Hopefully I can reproduce this bug on my own machine. It does indeed run a little slower, because of the additino of background processes like powerd and the batterymonitor. The battery monitor will need to be changed to use less resources, it updates way too frequently. I wanted to go ahead and get the basic functionality working, but loosing the gamekey and d-pad is a big deal. I'll look into this. I'd like to know if this is consistent. Can anyone use the buttons next to the monitor, does it happen every boot. reboot and see if the problem is still there. Thank you for the comments. all comments and complaints are welcome.

I mistakenly understood that gksu would solve our authentication problems. I was wrong. gparted and root terminal work fine but synaptic and some other apps us su-to-root a wrapper for gksu kdsu or whatever one uses. This problem is solved by installing the "menu" package with the following command in the terminal:
Code:
sudo aptitude install menu
I appologize for these kinds of bugs, but i just don't know everything about linux and I don't claim to know what I am doing. I'm just trying to share what I think is useful, however now that I see how many bug there are creeping in I'll do more testing to avoid such hassles in future releases/updates. My intention is to provide a distro that just works and works well.

RE: d-pad, other keys/buttons not working
The problem with the d-pad keys not working has to do with powerd. After suspending the up-down-left-right keys next to the monitor no longer work because of the hack that gets the keyboard and trackpad working after wake from suspend. I know this is a problem now and where it comes from but I do not know how to fix except to fix powerd for real. that will happen but it may take a while to for a confirmed solution to come available. I'll keep you posted

RE: d-pad other keys/buttons not working after wake from suspend.
this problem has been fixed in the new kernel and i8042 driver. I'll get this fix to you guys ASAP. all the keys should then work all the time even after resume, and resume should work slightly faster.

I really do not think that you have anything to apologize for, and I do not think that anybody should complain either (certainly I do not).
Building an OS is a tedious and admirable job and a million things can go wrong. Regression is a common thing and only testing (from our part) and hard work (from yours
) can do it.
Keep it up and keep posting deborah 0.x. When you reach 1.x will be critical
PS: powerd needs kbdshim to work properly. Is it included? (I did not check)

kbdshim changes the keybindings that deborah uses for the volume, brightness, rotate, d-pad, and other keys, so it is not included. The solution would be to modify kbdshim to only provide keyboard and trackpad idle reporting, at least it sounds like that would work.

Let me chip in with a thank you for the major effort from metal.lunchbox to get the old DebXO revitalized and useful. I've played with Deborah 0.1 several times and now have 0.2 up and running, and sure I've got some gripes, but generally it's at least as good as any other XO distro attempt I've seen.
In case it's helpful-- My biggest problem with Deborah is the small fonts and miniscule cursors. So I went out (yet again) looking for fixes, and found a cursor theme that seems to really help. The WhiteLarge cursors zip package opens without issues, the cursors can be tucked into a new ~/.icons/ folder, and a simple addition to ~/.Xdefaults
Xcursor.theme: whitelarge
Xcursor.size: 36
will have the new larger cursors up and running after a reboot. This approach gives new larger pointer, bracket and hand icons for all applications (a major improvement over Big Cursor).
Now to find all the config files and change all the fonts ...

Ya I wanna chime in here as well, you don't need to apologize for anything. We know what your doing isn't easy and appreciate your efforts. Thank you metal.lunchbox!

I have a hard time figureing out what font sizes are best. I tend to use smaller fonts because it allows me to fit more on the screen, but lets not get carried away. Immediately after posting the 0.2 archive I changed to font sizes in opera to much more readable defaults. I have however run into the following problem. After updating the packages lxappearance no longer allows me to adjust the font, this would affect the panel and the menu. I was previously able to do this and had set the fonts to a small but readable 12 point. I do not know why lxappearance doesn't adjust the font. I'll pay attention to fonts in 0.3 and make sure that everything is of an appropriate size. cursors will also be slightly larger. thanks for the comment.

correction lxapperance works fine but lxpanel now adjusts font size with icon size. I'll try to find a way to increase the panel fonts.

0.3 will have bigger fonts, but in the meantime you can change the scale of the fonts system-wide ( except for opera ) , from the terminal enter
leafpad .Xdefaults
and change the first line to "Xft.dpi: 114"
in opera you change the font sizes in preferences/advanced/fonts
you can also adjust fonts in "openbox configuration manager" and "appearance" from the menu. The lxpanel developers have unfortunately decided to set fonts according to icon size, so if you update, then the panel fonts will be small.

Thanks for the font hints. I fixed the panel issues by bumping up the panel width to 40. That required going through the battery and wicd icons and bumping them up too. But once I got it all done, I liked the results a lot.
By the way, I noticed that the panel moves to mid-screen during rotations, but rather than go into the scripts to kill it and restart it, I just moved it to the top of the screen and turned on its transparency. All in all, it's pretty set up that way. Of course, the panel also refuses to resize on rotation, but that's no concern to me. Perhaps someone who uses rotation a lot might look for a real fix.
