need OGG/OGV video playback advice

Regarding the VLC installation described in another topic:
su
rpm -ivh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm
yum install vlc

At this time, December 2009, with release 802, Fedora 9, I am trying to install VLC to play the XO repair videos on a working XO.  This is for a project in a remote part of Ethiopia where we have about 150 XO laptops, no internet, only solar-generated electricity, and one laptop is designated for use by the person who will repair others.  The repair videos are very helpful but I have not been able to get them to play on the laptop using Totem, which is included in the installation.  To install VLC, I tried the steps above but the pathname is no longer current.  I have browsed through the directories at download1.rpmfusion.org and tried a few combinations of downloads for Fedora 9, but no luck.  Anyone know the correct pathname for VLC installation?

Thanks!

I should also add a couple of details -- The XO repair videos that we want to be able to view on the XO are the ones that show disassembly of the top and disassembly of the bottom.  Those videos are available in .FLV format.  I converted to them to .OGG and .OGV formats using the ffmpeg2theora tool using 360 x 240 size and then using 240 x 180 size.  In both cases, I used -v 5 and -a 0 (since there is no sound for the videos).

I am able to get the Apollo 15 launch sample video to play successfully via the Totem interface and also by going to the Browser activity and using file:///media to navigate to that video on a USB flashdrive.

Suggestions are welcome!  Thanks!

as you found out installing VLC for Fedora 9 is impossible by now (actually if someone has the rpm it would be nice to post somewhere).
I guess you have to play with the ffmpeg2theora settings and make sure that you have all the required codecs. Alternatively you may want to try oggconvert but again the libraries and the codecs is the key, I think.
Do you get any messages when you do the conversion of the failed videos that are distinct from the successful ones (try dmesg | tail after each conversion to see what you get) that could clue you as of what might be going wrong?

XO-1: Is never going to run Flash, but is certainly flashy!
(If you want Flash, get an XO-1.5 running OLPC 11.2.0 or XOpup Grin )
