Java Fonts & Language Learning

Hi All,

Some time ago my wife (a language teacher) discovered a language learning program that's pretty neat to use.  But, at first it was Windows only, so I never tried it with my XO.  But, there has been a Java version that works great.... except for the tiny fonts.

You can run the software from here: http://www.wartoft.nu/software/selingua-java/

I would love to be able to use this on my XO, if I could only increase the font size.  I'm using teapot's Ubuntu, and I have all the necessary Java 6 libraries, and dependencies.  I've poked and prodded around the java related files, but I haven't discovered any way to increase the font size.

So, if any knowledgeable,  curious person could check it out, I'd really appreciate some tips on how to make this run bigger on my XO.

Thanks in advance.

I do not really know... but my understanding is that java applets do not "like" font changes because it can mess-up the layout of the applet.
The alternative (till more knowledgeable people come along) is to change screen resolution! This is  possible both in Sugar 0.82 and in DebXO (check this thread http://www.olpcnews.com/forum/index.php?topic=4138  and get the Sugar version now any way because the Fedora10 repository will be going down soon after F12 is out). Unfortunately not in Teapot's Ubuntu Sad

Thanks mavrothal.

I guess if it is possible to change resolution with DebXO, then it must be possible in Ubuntu also.  It might not be easy, but I might want to try that when I get some time.

*edit*   I was just reading further, and it seems that others have already tried with Ubuntu.  I don't think I'll be able do any better.

So,... if anyone familiar with Java has any ideas, I'm listening!

Thanks everyone for a good forum.

Now multiple screen resolution works on Ubuntu too Grin http://www.olpcnews.com/forum/index.php?topic=4138.msg30967#msg30967
