Well, it is October 1st, so I am wondering if we will be seeing a G1G1 this year, particularly if the XO 1.5 is part of it.

Does anyone have any insight into this?

Thanks,

Good question!  G1G1 2009 is still a big question market, but would love, no LOVE to see it happen with XO-1.5 or even just 1.5 motherboards/

I am waiting for the aftermarket vendors to make the XO1.5 motherboard available for us XO 1.0 owners.

I think it will happen and a video to install it will be made due to the DC users group making a video during one of their monthly meetings.

Hmmm, I guess that would work too, but it would be great to get a G1G1 opportunity this year.

Heck, I would even go for a G2G1 (give 2, get 1) deal :-)

OLPC has not learned how to do aftermarket batteries, so I do not expect us original XO owners to get a XO 1.5 motherboard.

I can easily see me driving down to DC when they have an XO DC user's group meeting converting a bunch of them all at one time.

The beta builds of XO-1.5 just arrived.
To go from beta to production in less than a month while the software is not finished and the people involved with the XO-1.5 being considerably fewer than for XO-1, would be surprising. So a G1G1 at least with XO-1.5s looks difficult at this point.
Of course they could be delivered in the G1G1 2007 fashion... Roll Eyes

Or even an G2G1 option...
love seeing the XO every day and knowing children somewhere might be planning a new project, smiling and swinging the XOs around

I ordered the XO as soon as G1G1 opened on Amazon and I received it shortly afterwards...  sooner than 2007.

Hi folks . . .

I was watching TV last Sunday evening (CBS on October 18th, to be exact) and was rather surprised to see an OLPC G1G1 commercial. No mention was made if this had anything to do with older XO-1 or newer XO-1.5 machines. I was just surprised to see an OLPC TV commercial . . . a first for me. I did a follow-up check on the laptop.org site the next day, but only found information on how to directly donate a machine . . . no info on a new G1G1 program.

Well checking the Amazon.com site (http://amazon.com/xo) suddenly has a G1 program there. (wasn't there last time I checked a week or so ago.) But no option for G1G1.. looks like you can only donate a laptop.
