G1G1 has returned for 2009.  The OLPC page on Amazon.com has just gone live:

Note that its donation only, at this point, but that doesn't mean it will stay that way.  Who is up for another G1G1?  And this time with XO-1.5!

Maybe they don't want any more hassles selling and distributing the XO?

If last year practically no one wanted a G1G1 XO, who would be willing to pay over $400, including shipping for a mystery machine. We all know that most XO users just own 1 machine.

I think that OLPC realized that the base number or participants to run another G1G1 program would not be met, so they chose the G1 option only!

I think last year's low sales were because of the G1G1 2007 shipping fiasco.  By letting real professionals handle sales, the 2008 G1G1 was so much better.  A 2009 G1G1 with XO-1.5 could be the real breakthrough to long-term XO sales int he USA (if OLPC would allow it)

If only XO-1.5 would be available for this holiday season....
OLPC has 3-4 people working on software with ~100 open bugs (and was not enough testing to find them all yet).
The firmware is still worked on,  the motherboard still need work and a B-3 version will come out eventually and is October 25... Roll Eyes
So I think the Amason post is just to capture the Season spirit.  Wink

XO-1: Is never going to run Flash, but is certainly flashy!
(If you want Flash, get an XO-1.5 running OLPC 11.2.0 or XOpup Grin )

Unfortunately, OLPC did use professionals. They used the wrong one's!

If another company used them to supply their products, could they get money back as a part of a lawsuit? I doubt it, but I am not a lawyer!
