o.k. I've seen all the hubub about the firmware now supporting booting both the OX/Openfirmware way and the new "Windows" way.

I'd love to play withthe new "Windows" type boot but for the life of me I can't find a reference on the wiki(.laptop.org) on how to set it up. By reading throught the notes on various firmware versions there is definitely reference to "windows XP SD cards" so is this option for SD cards only. that would suck because a standard bios type boot that looked for live USBs would be great..

Anyone have any ideas? before I go an make a Dos bootable SD card to play with

Thanks in advance,

Here's a thread where user "rraucci" had limited success booting to the XP installer from a USB drive:

"install-xp" is the command in OFW he used.

Here's some info on the OFW manual boot process:

Thanks for the info..

been having some fun with "install-XP"

it tries to boot my FSF.org membership card.. but cacks and dies with a unsupported vaule to a bios call... (probably trying to set up a FB)

I'll poke around more

I'm also planning to try net booting using core.linux.org...

We'll see how it goes.
