Help! Can't eject SD card!

Hi,
I put in a 2GB card,
saw that it was visible in the journal. Yay. Works.

But now I can't seem to eject it. Pushing it in does nothing, and I can't really grip enough of it to pull it out.

Anyone else having trouble?

Should I just push... harder?!

I found removing the SD from the slot in the XO to be very similar to other devices.

When it is loaded the card bottoms out with a clicking sound as you push it in.  To remove it you push it in 2-3 mm and release and there will again be a click sound and it will be released from the slot.  Actually, for the XO, the card floats all of the way out and hovers for about 10 seconds before gently drifting down to the desktop.  It is really an amazing device.

The XO I have has a pronounced click in both directions.

Remember, no hammers, large or small allowed.

Yep - my Sandisk 2G card 'sticks' a bit and when I click it out, it kind of hangs up and doesn't pop out very far.  I take my finger nail and hook it slightly on the side of the card. I can half pry it and half scratch it out.

Good luck!

I got a card stuck... used a knife blade to *carefully* move it up so I could pull it out

no damage  Tongue

I haven't seen a photo of where this slot exactly is, does anyone have one?

Cheers,

Its under the power switch on the lower edge of the display.  You have to spin the display 90 degrees to get the SD card in.

This lesson took me about 20 minutes to figure out to rotate the slot over the handle area.

I had the same problem with one SD card while my other one popped out easily.  I looked at the "sticky" card and saw that the label had started peeling off so I just removed the paper label (there is text underneath the label telling the card capacity), rubbed off the gluey stuff that had held the label on, and now it pops right out of the slot.

Gah...

Just got a 2GB SD card and I have the same "can't eject" issue...

It simply gets stuck...

I have no idea what you are talking about... I think you are describing your stuck sort of coming out slowly because the card fits too tight and it's preventing it from coming out fast and in your case it seems almost like it's designed to eject it slowly...

I am going to email OLPC about this...

This is my first hardware flaw I ran into...

With my XO, I also experienced that the slot was on the stiff/tight side for the first couple ejects.  To eject the card, I had to push it in until it clicked to disengage it, and gently wiggle it from side to side to help the spring push it out.  After a few insertions/ejections, the card now pops out like it's supposed to, even with brand-new cards of the same type that originally was a bit stiff.

Unfortunately, the slot is designed so that the side of the card that's easily accessible when it's stuck in the slot is the side opposite the fingernail groove.

Yeah... it seems like it's loosening up...

Kinda freaked me out there a bit...  My poor SD card... it has scratches from being forced out of the slot with my son's diaper pin...

I haven't got my XO yet, but I wonder if you can make a little handle for an SD card with a piece of adhesive tape?   Then you could more easily pull the SD card out?

Peter, that was what I ended up doing. I put a Post-IT tape flag on the side of the card without the gold pins and keep the neon colored tab poking out. You might have to trim the flag a bit with scissors.
