Classmate with factory Ubuntu

This news item is very interesting:

It says that a new Classmate PC version may be shipping with a dedicated Ubuntu edition. Intel and Canonical are working together on this and the customized Ubuntu version (running Netbook Remix) will support every bit of hardware functionality the Classmate offers.

This is great news for Lnux in general. However the Classmate seems to be very expensive (~$400) to make a real difference.

It is worth to note, that the Classmate will have a stronger selling position here because now it officially supports a free OS too, not only Windows.

So If a government has emphasis on free software, the Classmate is still in business.

OLPC will have a harder time to sell the XO to governments like this. Maybe the price difference will help.
