I think SheepShaver has some performance limitations due to the fact that it doesn't emulate an MMU.  Ergo, it can't run Mac OS 9.1 or 9.2, which were better versions of the OS.

On the other hand, it does run.

How would the performance be running from a terminal under Sugar?  I'm not even sure it would be possible...

Not very different. Is already using 90-93% of the CPU under Ubuntu. Another 2-3% is not going to do much. It's emulation, not virtualization.
