Okay so netcat was incredibly easy to install, and is proving more difficult to use.

Quote
yum install netcat

Worked flawlessly to install the application, but I am struggling to execute it as a listening server using the standard command.

Quote
nc -l -p 9000
returns information on how to run the program (clearly indicating a syntax error), yet after reviewing the man page and the syntax info for my mistake I failed to notice it. anyone out there successfully get netcat listening on their XO?

I think you need a space in there

netcat -l 9000

Good call! Thanks alot, also thanks for the link.

The command display is deceptive because it appears that you need to use the -p flag to preface the port number, but therein was my issue...
