The .torrent file downloaded fine and the torrent seems healthy. Once it's finished downloading I'll keep seeding for a few days. if you still can't get the .torrent file let me know and I'll arrange to e-mail you a copy.

Just a sad reminder.
Intrepid will stop being supported by Canonical by the end of the month. So this would be your last chance to do any updates/additions to your Ubuntu intrepid - XO1 installation. After that point will not be possible even to find the applications and packeges Sad
So update/install/backup and use it as long as it serves your needs.

i'm having problems installing Ubuntu Intrepid on my XO Laptop...

at one point i had the USB Drive being detected as well as the SD Card (i verified this by doing DF) but after my first installation attempt whenever i did the DF command to see if my SD Card was being detected it never was again.

I initially tried to fix this by reformating my SD Card and rebuilding the MBR on the flash card in another computer.

now.. that isn't the problem at the moment, problem is now..  after my 3rd attempt, what looked like Ubuntu Intrepid installing (the tar file being unpackaged to the SD card), turns out it was being uncompressed to my main XO Disc space cuz during the installation I kept seeing that I was running low on space in the Journal...

now my problem is, my XO laptop looks like it has the UBUNTU intrepid files installed on it somewhere, but i don't know where..  Can someone help me with this?  i'm pretty new to linux, but i've been picking up commands left and right.    I just need some help erasing what looks like the UBUNTU Intrepid off my XO laptop HD and attempting to reinstall it.  Please help this noob.  I can be emailed at: [email protected]

Xain,
most likely the ubuntu files are either in your home directory (if you failed to type correctly "cd /mnt" command of the instructions) or in the /mnt folder (if mounting of the card failed for some reason).
I think at this point the best would be to No-fail-update your XO-1 and start fresh making sure that the commands are entered correctly (copy/paste should be OK for most of these) and paying attention to any messages/warnings coming out after each command is entered.

I am alive, and should be able to produce a usable 10.04.

Apologies for my absence, I was busy with multiple projects at work including this:

Yes, yes, welcome back!

I have been very, very pleased with the last version of Ubuntu that you put together for the XO.  I have used it nearly every day since I first got it going.  Now that I've upgraded the other computers I use at home, and at work to Ubuntu 10.04, I was afraid that my XO would stay behind.  I would very much appreciate a 10.04 for the XO.

Once again, welcome back.

I've been tempted by some of the other OSs that have been discussed here in recent months, but I'm also still using Teapot's Intrepid daily on my XO.  An update to 10.4 would be wonderful, though...  Being an LTS version, support for it would probably last the remaining lifespan of my XO.

Teapot, took me nearly 2 years of DebXO to finally get ahold of the Ubuntu4business image, I even own Xtra based on squeeze.

Intrepid is BY FAR the best image I've used, just sorry it took me so long to try it out.

If you're creating a 10plus port the Ubuntu support would roll with it, Kudos!  (We're not worthy, Oh Linux Jedi Master!).

Seriously, thanks for all the effort you've already applied to this program, further support would be GREATLY appreciated  Grin

The link for the torrent is not mount | grep /dev/sd , but http://mars.illtel.denver.co.us/~abelits/torrents/OLPCFiles-intrepid-20081130.tar.bz2.torrent

You can not download it using your browser (e.g. Internet Explorer), but you need to download a torrent client.

The steps to follow once you have done that are in the first post in this thread.  They are VERY detailed, but must be done exactly as written.  I have installed it a couple of times on my XO's, and it always takes me several attempts because I mistyped something or forgot a step.  What I normally end up doing is printing the first page and using it as a checklist so I can keep track of where I am.

A big thing I have trouble with is the spaces.  It's very hard to see them, but if Teapot put them in then I'm sure they're important.

Good luck, and I hope that helps!  Smiley
