Ordered my two XOs last Monday, received them today (Wednesday) with free shipping.
What a difference with the delivery time of my first XO ordered last year with the first G1G1.

Was disappointed to find out they were delivered with update.1 (build 708, aka 8.1) and not with 8.2 (build 767).
Also the first boot takes a loooooooong time, since the OS has to be installed in its final destination in flash memory (copy from pristine to run).

I just hope this is not the beginning of a support nightmare (8.1 old sugar vs 8.2 new sugar).

For the Europeans it is maybe not a bad thing they will have to wait. My guess is their machines will be delivered with 8.2 since they either have been manufactured recently or are being manufactured right now.

I always had the impression 8.2 was intended for G1G1-2008, but the reality is different.
OK, now get them on the internet and run olpc-update to get 8,2

This year it was extremely important for us to have Amazon stocked with inventory
so orders could be fulfilled and delivered right away, the first day of the program.
That meant that manufacturing actually had to begin before 8.2 was
released; the machines being manufactured now have 8.2 built in, but the
first G1G1 buyers will be receiving the first manufactured machines.

My interpretation of this is that the current stock at Amazon for US shipments
has 8.1.

I agree.  This is not good.  My top-ten question never got off the ground but so far the list looks like:

1. How to update to 8.2 and be happy.
2. How to watch a video.

Should we make a short list and get it up and running?

I received my XO from Amazon last week and it too had the previous build installed, but I upgraded it yesterday painlessly over the internet. The directions on the wiki were right on.

The XO have received great attention from colleagues, students, and friends.

Received mine Friday(05Dec2008) from Amazon. Build update.1 708 Firmware Q2D16.  I have not been able to connect to the internet with the machine, however, currently downloading to usb. Hope all goes well.
