The question of how many XOs will be donated in 2008 has repeatedly come up when talking to people about OLPC and Give 1 Get 1 these days...

If I remember correctly last year yielded donations for about about 160,000 XOs with roughly 60,000 of them being "get" machines.

Now with G1G1 2008 no longer being available in Canada but making the jump across the Atlantic to Europe it's really hard to estimate how many XOs will be donated this time 'round.

I'm still willing to take a wild guess here and say that I expect a total of 120,000 XOs to be donated from Nov. 17 until Dec. 31.

What does everyone else think?

I hope that they do that well.  I wonder if numbers will be down because OLPC is promising better hardware in XO 1.5 in the spring.

I think that Europe will be a big draw as they never had G1G1 in 2007, yet they have had a year's worth of Asus Eee PC's.  On this side of the pond, I see demand being muted.  We already went through G1G1, and with the economy in the doldrums, I don;t see much a giving mood.

Anybody else have pre-G1G1 anxiety?    I have no idea what to expect as far as the amount donated.  I just hope the program runs well and that the people buying the laptops have realistic expectations.

I'm very curious as well.

Haven't really seen a lot of press coverage in Europe...  this combined with the Asus Eeeeeeee hype and the economic difficulties, puts me in a pessimistic mood about the amount.

This isn't really very surprising news but it's dissapointing non the less.
What's your opinion?  Game over?  Will cutting down on costs work?
