I was reading about the students in Niue that installed mp3 players in their XO http://www.olpcnews.com/countries/oceania/olpc_oceania_intervew_by_olpc.html
and I was wondering how. So, installing audacious in 767 with the required plugins for playing MP3 and MPEG-4 audio files. Is pretty simple
Code:
su
yum install audacious audacious-plugins-freeworld-mp3 audacious-plugins-extras libmad
Done!
type audacious in the terminal and you are up and running. Click on the audacious window and press <ctrl>+<d> to increase the size of the audacious window. Sounds really nice Grin

Possible prerequisites (that I can think of)
I have already downloaded vlc http://www.olpcnews.com/forum/index.php?topic=3766.msg26954#msg26954 so some required libraries or repos might be coming from there.

XO-1: Is never going to run Flash, but is certainly flashy!
(If you want Flash, get an XO-1.5 running OLPC 11.2.0 or XOpup Grin )

A couple of questions about Audacious under Teapot's Ubuntu Intrepid.

I installed Audacious using the Synaptic manager and I have installed the win32 codecs from the separate website deb package and libxine1-ffmpeg through Synaptic manager.

When I open a mp3 under Audacious, the screen shows timing of zeros.  Play function has no effect.  if I move the timing slider, it shows that I am moving with the song (i.e., it properly changes with the song's length).  However, the slider pops back to zero when released.  The song's name does not appear in the screen.

The other issue (which is not unique to Audacious) is that when opening within the program to select a file, /home/olpc only shows the Desktop, whereas on the Desktop itself, if I open the home folder, I see all the files under /home/olpc.  This means that I have to drag files from the file manager off the Desktop rather than use the file manager popup within the various programs. What am I doing wrong here?  Thanks. JCR

@ Jrobbins
Don't you think that this should be asked in teapot's thread or a new thread for "Audacious under Ubuntu" instead of a thread for Audacious in Sugar?...

I'll just give you a hint for here Wink  You are probably missing codes/plugins or you are trying to play DRMed files.
