I was just thinking earlier today how cool that would be. I even poked the screen a few times JUST IN CASE that was a feature I missed. Embarrassed

That was such a teaser video...he shows it working but not how he did it.

Wow, cool stuff!
I wasn't able to listen to the audio (because I'm at work), but I did see him show 2 different chips of some sort at the end, so I'm assuming it's a hardware mod.
I don't mind hacking a desktop, but I wouldn't be comfortable cracking open the xo.

Hopefully it could be done with just a software mod.

I doubt something like this could be done with a software mod, seeing as the screen contains no actual means of detecting you pressing on it. That being said, there was some internal discussion of this kind of modification being made, if you read the wiki. Several different methods are discussed, my favorite being the capicative multi-touch overlay.

My understanding of this mod is bare bones but more than listed currently...

Apparently there are screens available for purchase that can be mounted on top of the current screen. These touch screens interface with a usb port, and this modder created an internal hardwire for the screen. Then its down to software.

Seems easy enough... Undecided

The problem is, I don't think there are 7.5" touchscreens..
There's 7" from UMPC's and CarPC displays..
8.9" from the Fujitsu P1610, Flybook V5's, and CarPC's..

7.5" is a bit odd.

You can get some touch screen functionality using the Wii remote, as shown here http://www.youtube.com/v/5s5EvhHy7eQ . This might be able to be brought to the XO if it had bluetooth capabilities.

i found this: http://www.elotouch.com/Products/Touchscreens/AcousticPulseRecognition/default.asp

they say can be scaled from PDA to 42-inch displays... maybe this would work,
i don't know.

is anybody actually trying an

eee-like "real" touchscreen mod?... Huh
(as mentioned in the very first post by Torokun)

cause that seems more practical than any wiimote hack...
has anybody an idea of how much space is left between the housing and the olpc's lcd? enough space to fit few milimeters of a touchpanel? enough space to fit the usb controller for the touchpad if a speaker or an internal usb connector is removed?...

a touchscreen would make tablet-mode much more exciting! Grin
so long, many questions...

cheers! Smiley

I still have Wayan's XO. When I get mine, you're on.

Is the XO screen the same size as an eee?

OMG

DO WANT DO WANT DO WANT Smiley

If this screen is compatible with the XO, and the mod is not too invasive, I definitely will go for the investment in a future auction or from an online store.

If it isn't, then maybe someone will design an XO-specific touch screen.

(Or maybe a while down the road, Pixel Qi will have a$75 laptop with a touch screen. Cheesy)

Can get one that would work with the dual screen (daylight readable) like what the XO-1 has.
