Do you have an option to disconnect under your start menu.  It should be around the same place you'd normally go to reboot or shutdown the computer.

when you want out of a rdc session you can go to the XP Start and Log Off.  This will log off the remote XP and you should be returned to the terminal session.  I do this rather than the disconnect so that I am not still logged in on the remote box

Use -f option if you don`t want access to Sugar .
I use rdesktop -g 1200x900 server_ip_address
It gives me a fullscreen desktop and I have access to Sugar.
