Can xo daisy chain to LAN ?

I do not think it is currently possible to daisy chain  an xo to a LAN unless you have school server active antenna.  I read the link in mavrothal's post and it also contains a lot of discussion about the radio.  My reading between the lines of the discussions suggests that a new release might make this possible with an ordinary LAN AP.   Does my read have any legs?

Is anybody doing this now ?  I would like to daisy chain through to a jabber.

EDIT

Acutally, the solution appears to have existed for a long time:

It appears an XO can be the last "bridge" between the Mesh and an access point or cable connection (using USB adapter).   Will have to try this sometime down the road.

daisy chain to lan...meaning that you cant yet have a link of XOs that allow XOs to get access to internet that would be otherwise out of range? or is it a link that would lead to another group of XOs?

either way that ant right, and am very surprised to hear this. If thats true then key features of the XO havent even been released yet. No major deal for me, but i'm sure it is for the kids who need this feature in order to have access to things like the internet (or off line computers that kids should be able to theorically access from far away) but are too far away to be able to.

xo's spaced out just in range of another xo.  Last xo also connect to LAN ( via wireless access point or usb to LAN adapter.

The original concept was that the last point would be a school server or the olpc special mesh active antenna /router.    I believe that is implemented, but ordinary people can not get an olpc active antenna.
