"Activated Upgrade" question

I've been re-flashing from USB per http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Activated_Upgrade. I put the os###.img and fs.zip on my USB stick - everything works fine.

Must those be the only 2 files on the drive (stick)? I noticed that after the first use, a folder ".olpc.store" gets created - but that doesn't prevent the ability to reflash from that stick.

Can I also have my developer key stored on that stick? Should I put it in a /security folder?

What if I have 2 developer keys (2 XOs)? Can I have the 2 develop.sig files in 2 folders for storing, and move the appropriate one to the /security folder when flashing?

I seem to keep having problems - I've managed to lock up my XO just trying to install XFCE (which is supposed to be simple and I thought I understood) - so I'm trying to get my "re-flashing" streamlined. Smiley (I've got 2 sticks - one with 656 and one with 708).

Thanks!

In the USB stick you can have whatever else you want but NOT 2 OS images (eg 656 and 703) at the root level of the stick, eg visible when you just open the USB.
If you flash with 703 and later, you also must get the Activity package and install it as described in http://wiki.laptop.org/go/G1G1_activity_pack. Make sure that they are not visible at the root level of the USB when you install the OS.

If you want to stream line the process, take an 1GB USB key and make 4 folders Built ###, Built $$$, Activities, Activation_Keys. Put in each one the respective content, eg fs.zip and OS image for the OSs, the unzipped content of the G1G1_Activity_Pack_1.zip file (2 folders and a file), and your activation keys.
Depending on what you want to do, drag the content of the respective folder at the root level of the USB stick and start the process. When you finish but it back in and go for the next, if needed. Works fine no need for 2 sticks.

The development keys you must install manually. However, particularly with  2 XOs to avoid confusion is simpler to just go to the site and ask for the key. Since you did it before it remembers the XO's serial number and installs it immediately. No need to wait for a day after the first time.

XO-1: Is never going to run Flash, but is certainly flashy!
(If you want Flash, get an XO-1.5 running OLPC 11.2.0 or XOpup Grin )

They do NOT! have to be the only 2 files on the stick, just make sure from my experience don't put them in any folder on the stick or else the XO may not read or register the files just keep them plain on the stick and it should read and register the activated update/upgrade files just fine!
