Resetting to default

Ok so I just got my XO this weekend and it's set to the original owner's settings. What I want to do is reset the XO just as it would've been when you got it from G1G1. So I don't mind if any files I may have added get erased as long as the preinstalled stuff doesn't. If anyone knows how to do this, I would love to know.

Help would be very much appreciated.

Doing an Activated Upgrade will reset everything for you. If your firmware isn't up to date, you might want to go ahead and do that, too.

It's already been updated to the 656 firmware.  Sad

It won't allow you to do an activated upgrade, since you already have 656? Actually, I think it will. It's a not-uncommon way of recovery from goofing up the OS while hacking. Have you tried it?

If it won't, you can 'upgrade' to 653. Just replace the 656 links in the instructions with:

http://download.laptop.org/xo-1/os/official/653/jffs2/fs.zip
http://download.laptop.org/xo-1/os/official/653/jffs2/os653.img

Then you can do another Activated Upgrade to 656, do an Olpc-update to 656, or if 656 didn't have any updates that are critical for you, just stay at 653 until the next big update.

Thanks Catmoran, I didn't even think of that.  Grin
