Gray Screen when launching Opera

This happened before when I tried to upgrade. I went to the DC Learning Club Meet-up and someone helped by launching the program from the Terminal. Can anyone help a newbie recognize the Opera program and get it to launch? What do I need to type exactly once I launch Terminal.

Thanks so much for helping in advance. This time I SWEAR I'll pay attention and take notes.

Hello!

The gray screen happens when you start Opera all the time. It is not fully Sugarized. I see the same thing when I run my Twinkle program from Terminal also to make FREE telephone calls.
