Using the XO's camera with Processing (Java) - GSTFakeVideo?

I am hoping to use my XO to run an art piece I'm presenting in a show.  The project is written in Processing (http://www.processing.org), which is really just java.  I would like to use the XO's camera to detect the ambient room light level, but I'm pretty sure that the camera will not work out of the box.  Has anybody been able to get this to work, and if not, any ideas on how I might get started?

I am aware of GSTFakeVideo for use with Skype, but I'm not sure how it works.  Is it a command line app that creates a software camera that is easier to hook into?  Can anyone point me to an easier GSTFakeVideo howto than the website?

Don't know if somebody is still interested. The topic being older than 2 years. I found a pretty simple solution to access the XO's camera with Processing using OpenCV.
