GPS on the XO - cypress_m8 module?

My latest mission on my XO is getting my USB GPS dongle working.  The dongle in question is an DeLorme Earthmate LT-20.  The one thing I need (apparently) is the cypress_m8 kernel module.  This shouldn't be hard to build on a full fedora installation, but on the XO it's just about implausible.

<begging> would anyone be willing to compile and send a compiled cypress_m8 module for fedora core 7 (that's what we're running on the XOs right?) so that I can test it out?</begging>

gpsdrive is on the yum repo ("su && yum install gpsdrive") and it seems as though it should work smashingly if the correct drivers for the device are available.  Unfortunately they aren't included and one cannot build them on the XO.   I've seen this module in an RPM called kernel_xen (or something to that effect) for mandriva,  not sure if a similar RPM exists for fedora.

Any info or help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

On a similar note, I was wondering if anyone has rebuilt the XO kernel with Bluetooth enabled?  I have a USB Bluetooth dongle and a Bluetooth GPS (Garmin Mobile 10).

ben -- i've done so.  the resulting modules load fine on the current kernel.  (i'm running 656 -- i don't know which releases have compatible kernels.

PM me if you'd like the modules.

pgf:

Perhaps you could post here with the module(s) attached. I for one would like to get them for a Bluetooth USB thingy, and a Nokia Bluetooth GPS receiver.

yeah, that makes sense.  there's a tarball here:
  http://home.comcast.net/~foxharp/olpc/olpc-656-misc-modules.tar.gz
which contains modules for bluetooth (all), usb/serial (all, i think), net/usb (some), and input (some).  what you need is probably in there.

Thanks.  I untarred the files into /lib/modules/2.6.*/kernel/drivers (which I assume was the right location).

Is there a binary for roadmap (and gpsd & roadgps) for the XO?

(I'm beginning to think I should convert my WinXP pc to dual boot, so I can do my own compiling for my XO, instead of depending upon the kindness of strangers)

hi ben -- no binary currently, i'm afraid.  there's enough ancillary config that it takes a small tarball of baggage, and an install step, to make it work.

let me see if i can get you something later on.  pm me with an email address...

one other thing -- you'll need some other pieces installed as well -- the bluez-utils package, for instance.  and it doesn't matter where you untar the drivers -- you'll just insmod the ones you need to get your gps running.
