Okay, so I followed the free like GNU guide for installing xfce to-the-bloody-letter, turned off NetworkManager daemon, installed wifi-radar, and still, every time i boot up, i have to enter

/sbin/ifup eth0

into terminal in order to get the wifi to work.

Please, I would like to not have to do this any more. My obsession with trying to get this blasted thing working is threatening my relationship.  Help?

Also, I would like to use APT instead of YUM.  Please advise?

After having struggled a lot with wifi-radar i xfce, I went for nm-applet instead.
There has been some postings about this on:
http://olpcnews.com/forum/index.php?topic=2258.0

Here is a little resume:
Download the nm-applet rpm:
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/releases/7/Fedora/i386/os/Fedora/NetworkManager-gnome-0.6.5-2.fc7.i386.rpm
Install without dependencies:
Code:
rpm -i NetworkMangager-gnome-0.6.5-2.fc7.i386.rpm --nodeps

Occasionally it complains a little about not finding some gnome-database stuff, but apart from that, it works like a charm, WEP, WPA and all.

I've been having problems with wifi-radar in a area with dozens of hotspots (probably around 70, maybe more), where it starts hanging and gobbling up 90%+ CPU usage.

Anyone know if there would be a way around this issue? If there are only 20 hotspots or less, it's working fine, by the way.

Since I like using my XO in Union Square during lunchtime and have to deal with a plethora of hotspots, I will either have to connect using sugar or maybe try the nm-applet solution (hopefully it will not exhibit the same behavior). I'll do more research on my own, but I was wondering if others have seen this before.

Any suggestions are welcome Smiley

How did you guys get nm-applet to open...I got it to install in fedora/xfce with no deps... but then when i run "nm-applet" "error while loading shared libraries: libgnomeeui-2.so.0: cannont object file: No such file or directory"

How do you run a program and ignore its dependences?

Checking my log,i notice that I installed libgnomeui from the olpc_koji repo before I ran the rpm, nodeps install.
Hopefully this should help.
> yum install  libgnomeui
