My frustration...

Here's my frustration with all of this, and that is the possibility of letting my kids down.  I somehow knew that it would be a crapshoot as to whether or not we would get them prior to Christmas, but after the shipping window was released (D1 Donor - Dec. 14-24), I was somewhat relieved.  Now here I sit anxiously awaiting the arrival of two machines....and not a bit of information telling me when I might be able to calm down...

Yes, yes, I understand the bigger picture here with the third-world kids getting the machines.  But I have to vent about this somehow...

That's all....carry on.... Undecided

UPDATE:  Just called OLPC Donor Services and got my confirmation # (wasn't contained in the confirmation e-mail sent out on the 15th.  Plugged the requisite information in to FedEx, and found this...

Dec 18, 2007       2:46 AM        Arrived at FedEx location         CHAMPAIGN, IL
12:59 AM               Left origin                                 WHEELING, IL

There was some other information on the 17th, but now I'm faced with another possible dilemma.  Can anyone clue me in on what the approximate weight is of one machine?  I've got two coming, and the total package weight is 9.2 lbs.  Can someone please set my mind at ease and (truthfully) tell me that the weight of one machine is 4.6 lbs?Huh

Well put 919.  I'd like to know if I need to hit the malls this weekend and get something under the tree.

machine is about 4.2 lbs...looks like u have 2 machines in route!
while we all have been annoyed and frustrated, i really think it's important to remember the date promised was 12/24...so, maybe the delivery order makes no sense, but hopefully the arrivals will happen and olpc will have come thru.
i think i'm (and a few others) are micromanging this a bit too much:)))

4.2? Is that the total package weight or the machine itself? I thought I read somewhere the machine's weight is around 3 pounds. We have a few packages arriving on Friday at about 22 pounds so I'm trying to guesstimate the item count ahead of time.

My package weight shows up as 3.8 pounds, so I imagine they added a whole lot of packing material to your shipment of two.

Edit: oops, mixed up two posts.  22 pounds... that sounds like 5 XOs, plus some overhead for additional packing material.

That sounds about right. Payment was made with PayPal and unfortunately, they are going to a different address. Yikes! Hopefully we can get them so I can play over the weekend. Wink Heck, it'll give me a(nother) reason to stay in and avoid the crazy holiday shopping drivers.

So.....did I jump the gun worrying about whether or not the laptops showed up?  Possibly.

On the plus side of things, the machines did arrive.  I've fired one up, but I'd rather not ruin the "out of the box experience" for my kids, so I was forced to shut things down.  My original plan was to fire them both up, and get them set up on the wireless at our house, but then remembered the whole pick your color thing, and decided that I'd wait and let my kids do their thing, and I'll figure out the wireless Christmas morning.

On the down side of things, I fired one up, but was unable to do anything with it since they're my kids' machines.

...yes, I'm talking about the same machine.  Good luck to the other D1 donors in getting your machines in time for the holidays.
