Hey you lot.  It's been awhile since we got to share ideas on the XO.  Wondering if any of you are interested in another meeting soon?  My XO should be arriving in the next week and I'd love someone to show me around the terminal again, maybe get XFCE running for me?  Essentially I want to sap your brains of that delicious linux knowledge.

Whatever you guys want to do is alright with me, but the Linux Cafe is always around and weather may be turning for the better soon, so let me know.

I'd love to go but I'm out of town until Apr 26....

It's kind of ironic... I got my XO as a travel laptop... and now I'm always out of town when the meetups happen  Tongue

We'll definitely have one when you get back, Tabibito.  You could give us a slide show of where your XO has been.

Okay so April 6th folks, Linux Cafe.  12 o'clock?

Not seeing a lot of interest, which is strange as we had several people last time?

I was thinking we could focus on the following in greater detail:
-Using sugar for basic tasks
-Installing secondary OS's and Desktop Managers (Ubuntu, XFCE)
-writing simple scripts to automate shell tasks
-setting up a dedicated JAbber server

I would like to attend, but I will be on my way to Kanata at about that time, for a 1-week gig.  The first Sunday of May I'll most likely be in Winnipeg.  The timing doesn't look too good at this point!

Hey, haven't been on here in a a few weeks.  April 6th might work for me but I won't know until next week for sure.  If I can make it I will definitely show up.

Probably best that someone lets them know at the Cafe this time though just so they are aware..

^ Ah yes.  Excellent point.  I'll have them make us up a plate of something, but only if I'm sure people are coming.

Stefan and I will be attending

Sunday Apr 6

We're both looking forward to installing Ubuntu or some other display manager to get past Sugar.

Thanks for organizing this.

Okay guys I'm about ready to pull the trigger and let the cafe know we are coming, last time the proprietor suggested we order some food to make things worthwhile for him (not an unreasonable request), what does everyone feel like?

Their menu generally consists of:
    * panini
    * wrap
    * burrito
    * soup

What?  We have to order now?  Wink

We'll definitely be hungry around noon.  Then thirsty as the afternoon wears on and we'll be talking our heads off about installing Ubuntu and such...

If they have a problem hosting such events (in spite of being called the Linux Caffe, for Pete's sake) this venue will be more than happy to accomodate us:

    Fiddlers Green
    27 Wellesley Street East
    Toronto, ON M4Y 1G7
    (416) 967-9442

We hold the Toronto Webcentric Meetup there once a month.  They have free WiFi, and comely waitresses who trudge up to our attic room (with billiard table) to serve us all manner of goodies, including beer.

Of course, this may pose an issue for Stef who's 13 yrs old.  But on a Sunday afternoon...

He doesn't have an issue, he'd just like to be able to make some money from us hanging out there for hours on end, totally makes sense to me.  So far it's looking like just the two (3) of us?

I don't think you would need to order in advance.    I think he just meant he hoped people would order stuff like "hint, hint"

I just came down with a cold and if I feel like this on Sunday I will not be coming but if I am feeling better I will meet up with everyone.  I will check back this thread and try to update on Saturday night.
