SUPER!
Do you have an ETA in mind yet?
Next week.
All Right!!!
You have probably already considered this, but just in case I would strongly suggest a new thread for Intrepid. This is a wealth of info and of history
but a nightmare to find things by now

That new intrepid package sounds exciting! I can't wait!
But I agree, I had to trowl through a lot of pages to learn about the updates and this.. Perhaps a new topic, just for the new 8.2.0 and Intrepid information? Please?

I have built a filesystem with Intrepid and OLPC 8.2.0 kernel/ramdisk/modules/firmware,
Any chance that you add HFS/HFS+ support in the kernel? Assuming is not too much work or a big overhead of course...
We know OLPC loves windows
but what about poor macs and Ubuntu...

teapot,
with your tubewatcher script what does it mean when I get the following error:
clive/0.4.11 (linux/2.6.25; py/2.5.2; urlg/3.1.0; fparser/4.1)
cache:yes; paste:off; play:src; encode:off; rate:off; exist:rename
error: unsupported host (

)
=> 0 (0.0B), failed: 1, skipped: 0.
error: nothing to extract.
or
clive/0.4.11 (linux/2.6.25; py/2.5.2; urlg/3.1.0; fparser/4.1)
cache:yes; paste:off; play:src; encode:off; rate:off; exist:rename
error: unsupported host (

=> 0 (0.0B), failed: 1, skipped: 0.
error: nothing to extract.
thanks

I also agree about it being difficult to find info in this thread but I would suggest a different solution to handling the new intrepid release:
Start a new thread for discussions about intrepid and Teapot please create a central XO-ubuntu web page with the downloads and a set of installation instructions (written as well as pictorial) and supplemental extras get posted there with instructions too (like the tube watcher fix and power-utilities): a single centralized location for downloads instructions and solutions while the thread will be discussion.
I imagine the thread will be the place that the solutions first show up, but once they are stable they should be transferred to the XO-ubuntu mainpage, as I suggest above.
does this make sense to people? what do you think?

This issue has been reported above in this thread. About 270 messages back...
Basically you have to copy the address of the youtube PAGE that the flash movie resides NOT the address of the flash movie itself (by right clicking or something).
Clive must see and find a
www.youtube.com
address to look for a flash movie to extract.

Thanks Mavrothal, but now I am getting
clive/0.4.11 (linux/2.6.25; py/2.5.2; urlg/3.1.0; fparser/4.1)
cache:yes; paste:off; play:src; encode:off; rate:off; exist:rename
http://ww.youtube.com/watch?v=OotRUwrfNqU&fmt=18
100%
error: invalid file length -- check url
=> 0 (0.0B), failed: 1, skipped: 0.
error: nothing to extract.
and the Lego video still says "error: unsupported host". Is this because the script only works for youtube and google videos?
p.s. I removed one of the `w's above otherwise the forum tries to embed the video.

It is funny this being an XO video but it appears there is a problem with the specific page!

Correct. But is not the script, is Clive that does not work with other sites.
However there are several Firefox addons/extensions that could download embedded flash movies that can be then watched with MPlayer, VLC etc.

.flv files are supported directly by mplayer -- you can download them and run mplayer manually. I can also make tubewatcher script recognize URLs with supported files and pass them to mplayer directly (now it calls clive to translate pages to URL, clive downloads them and passes to mplayer).

You need to select the URL for Youtube page (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=
... ), not the flash file itself.

I want to keep kernel and modules in the base Intrepid installation as close to 8.2.0 as possible, so all kernel/modules updates will be in optional packages, not the initial tarball. The only changes from OLPC stuff in /boot are olpc.fth and modified ramdisk image with the fix for USB booting (because it's an obvious bug, and it would keep me from using USB drives for development).

I have been trying to use to get the xo to use the usb drive attached to my Apple Airport Extreme with little success so far. I finallly got shared folders (gnome network tools) properly installed and running fom the sd card, only to find that the AAE apparently will onlly support CIFS, not the generic Samba support offered therein. Using the instructions detailed here:
http://maketecheasier.com/ubuntu-intrepid-how-to-share-file-with-mac-os-x-via-netatalk/2008/11/05
and here:
http://blog.damontimm.com/how-to-install-netatalk-afp-on-ubuntu-with-encrypted-authentication/
, because the synaptic install is apparently broken for hardy and other recent versions (tried it tooo, didn't work),.I've been trying to install netatalk to communicate w/the AAE disk using AFP, but can't get it to install. When I 'apt-get source netatalk', here is what happens:
olpc@OLPC:~/src/netatalk$ apt-get source netatalk

Can anyone tell why I am getting the Permission denied errors? Does it have anything to do with the difference in the way Sugar handles authorization/permissions than niormal linux distros like Ubuntu? Thanks.

Use
sudo -s
to become root before running that (or add
sudo
to the start of every command line).

Please do. I'd love to know about the current state of play with using Ubuntu on the XO (for instance is it still using the useless stock OLPC kernel or has it been replaced by something better?) but I feel left out and left behind by 34 pages of forum posts (and that's just THIS thread). I saw mentioned somewhere that Teapot had some scripts or something. Perhaps they should be on

Thanks, that worked. Still couldn't get it installed, though. After I do 'sudo debi', I get an error: 'Address family not supported by protocol family'.
