Teapot,

is http://mars.illtel.denver.co.us/~abelits/torrents/OLPCFiles-intrepid-20081130.tar.bz2.torrent  the new release and ready for installation?  Does it have tubewatcher/clive/flashblock and power management built in?

Is http://mars.illtel.denver.co.us/~abelits/software/olpc/intrepid-install-from-scratch-20081130.tar.bz2 a non-torrent version?

thanks for all your hard work

Yes -- I just posted the announcement at  http://www.olpcnews.com/forum/index.php?topic=4053

I have included tubewatcher, and power management, however I forgot to include mplayer configuration for slow CPU, so I have added it to post-installation procedure. I can't include flash itself and Microsoft fonts into tarball, and local certificates have to be re-generated for each computer,  so post-installation is necessary anyway. Flashblock can be installed from addons.mozilla.org .

It's a procedure that was used to build the file and all replacements that did not come from Ubuntu repository. The procedure is fragile, so I don't recommend using it for anything but development.

Thx

Yes, however I am going to post them separately so it will be easier to install them on Hardy or develop/update them.

I recently purchased and installed XOexplosion's Ubuntu SD card and initially it worked fine out of the box. While I was configuring the desktop display, however (via menus - not via terminal), the toolbar at the bottom of the screen suddenly disappeared and now I can't access my wifi connection to get on line.  XFCE seems to have taken over the desktop and I now have the XFCE mouse logo instead of the initial XOexplosion's Ubuntu logo on the applications menu.  XFXE's "wifi radar" recognizes local "hot spots" but doesn't let me connect to my own or other wifi sources (locked - lock and key symbols on the screen's LHS are greyed out) and I've been through the desktop config. menus several times trying unsuccessfully to find a fix.

Am I the only one with this problem?  Can anyone tell me what I should do to unlock wifi radar or, better still, get the original XOexplosion desktop back?

I had a friend install Ubuntu on an SD card for me, but when I turn on my XO I get to the point after entering the password where I get the following prompt:

Ubuntu 7.10 OLPC tty1

OLPC login: olpc
Password: olpcolpc

olpc@OLPC:~$

Does anyone have a clue as to what I need to enter to start using applications in Ubuntu?

BTW the thread discussing your version of Ubuntu is this http://www.olpcnews.com/forum/index.php?topic=1436.0
A lot of the problems you may face are probably already answered there

37 pages later (yes I read em all)  Smiley and I'm tired!  Of course probably not as tired as Teapot.  Good morning Teapot you are a guru beyond all comprehension.  The sheer number of questions and answers in this thread as well as multitude of different configs and the like... ehhh my head spins thinking about it for too long.  But enough sucking up, this message is a thanks to Teapot first and foremost and all the work he has done to get Ubuntu working on my XO, you instructions and associated posts were all I needed.  Also to the other posters in this thread, thanks for asking the questions first  Wink
