Yeah, that's the issue I am having.  I have to reset my router at home fairly often anyway because my cable sucks....

but my XO (both this one and WAyan's) had sudden strange refusals to acknowledge the school network.  That really sucks.  I've deleted networks.cfg, I've reflashed, I've rolled back, I've done a little dance, I've stood on my head....

It used to work like a dream.

Now I am very confused. As far as I know, no one did anything with the wireless router. I too at times need to un-plug the router to re-activate the connection. Up till now:
- I've tried erasing the cnfg file ----------- no help
- I had the 656 build on a usb key and started the XO and it erased everything and re-installed 656 (I think) ------------ again, no help
- I read that others were having this problem and they resorted to a usb-ethernet adaptor and hard wire it into the router -------- I am now on my second adaptor, one a linksys and the that cute little one piecer ------- again nothing.

I am completely at a loss. Not adept with Linux ..... can follow directions ok , but I am getting very saddened with this development. I wanted to try another OS, but with no access to the internet, it makes it more difficult for a Linux-challenged person Smiley

We have a cable modem and our main phone is also through the cable. SO with the router, I have these 3 boxes with a myriad of flashing lights on top of the PC. I guess I will have to find the manual for the router and see if there is something I can do. Also, since I reflashed 656 on the XO, my dev key was erased (I do have it backed up on another computer). But now, occasionally when I try and restart the XO, it says it has failed and I should turn it off. This, as I said, is making me very sad and am somewhat frustrated since my knowledge base for Linux is rather minuscle, I feel somewhat inadequate since my Windows skills are much superior.

Does anyone have any ideas? Has this happened to anyone else? Am I screwing up my XO with my attempts? I can't remember how to get my dev key back on the machine ..................aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhh   Smiley

damn...  I asked the network guy at school and he says our router automatically changes channels all the time.  Arg.  That explains the issues.

deleting network cfg quite regularly.  no luck

Ok, I guess I better update my problem. Tried everything I could think of, but to no avail. Although I should have tried what I did in stages to see what was the problem and what fixed it, I didn't. My main PC was running slow and needed a reformat and re-install of everything (ie. cleaning it up). So what I did was the following:

1) purchased new router .......dlink WBR-2310
2) changed my connection to the computer from the network card to the on board network connection
3)f-disked my computer and re-installed windows, anti virus, firewall and programs we use
4) Installed new router and set up new wireless network
5) Since I am not comfortable with networks (yet) I may have not done it correctly. I ended up with a WEP and not a WPA (whatever that all means)
6) put in password

When I was done, my PC connected no problem with my cable provider and I had access to the net.

Turned on the XO and waited. It saw the newly created wireless network, asked for a password, I put it in and it looked like it connected, but didn't. Clicked on the newtork one more time, and lo and behold it connected. Access to the internet was accomplished. Just to be sure, I waited a day and turned on the XO again. It automatically connected with no problems.

So the moral of the story is, I really don't know what solved my problem cuz I didn't do the problem solving thing by adding or changing one thing at a time until the problem was solved. After I did the above, it worked (so far).

So I thought I would share this with those that have this problem.

PS. The first day it connected on channel 1 and the next day it connected on channel 11 with no input from me. I guess I am again a "happy camper" Smiley:

how do i delete  /home/olpc/.sugar/default/nm/
i dont know a bit about Linux.
I am haveing the same problem, I use to be able to get on-line at home but now it asks for a password.
I was able to get on-line at work with public access

The actual file should be networks.cfg.

In terminal, type the following line and press enter:
rm /home/olpc/.sugar/default/nm/networks.cfg

Then press ctrl-alt-erase; this will restart Sugar. After that, you should be able to see your wifi hotspot.
so i lost my wifi circles...and did the remove the networks.cfg thingie...and my work laptop now sees the xo...but i am still not getting the connection to my work wifi....i had changed the baud rate earlier...if i remove the network.cfg thing do i have to redo the baud rate???
thanks
