Has anyone been able to connect their OLPC to a WPA-enterprise network like the one used by big institutions, universities, etc?

My school has some linux instructions (https://management.pna.utexas.edu/static/faqs/dot1x/dot1x-linux.html), but it kina falls apart when I try to configure the wpa_supplicant.

Thanks for any help!

Don't quote me, but i think the wireless card in the XO might not support enterprise wpa (meaning I think it is a hardware issue, rather than software)

I could be wrong, and I just too tired to look it up, but I thought I read it somewhere in the main OLPC wiki.

Thanks Max.

Yeah, I'm afraid of that too. It uses the Marvell Libertas chipset
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Libertas
Which is apparently very similar to the one used in the Xbox. It doesn't mention WPA enterprise support, but I can't really find documents one way or the other.

That functionality resides in the software.  The wpa_supplicant does not have the authentication functions required.

Link to Xsupplicant:

I have other laptops at home connecting using EAP to Cisco APs. I was going to try Xsupplicant in a few days.  It has to be compiled.

Update:  Xsupplicant is available via yum.

Not only is it similar.  But a wireless enabled Xbox 360 can detect OLPC mesh networks and list them in it's networking blade.  Can't connect, so far as I can tell, however.

We've also got a WPA-Enterprise system.
I've had a look at the details that jonhuang posted from his Uni, the instructions that a friend gave me for getting an Asus EEE on line ( http://wiki.eeeuser.com/wpa_default_xandros ) and the modifications that he made in order to get it onto our system.

I'm going to have to take it very slowly, as I'm not really sure of a lot of things ...

One thing that is confusing me is the fact I've to use OpenSSL in order to convert the certificate in its current format (.cer) to a PEM one ... and I've been given a set of commands:
"you will need to convert it to PEM, using open ssl,
openssl x509 -out uop.cer inform DER -outform PEM < uop.cer"

Do I copy the file (uop.cer) to my home directory & then type in the line starting "openssl" ... or what??
